Viner Special Professional respray
Just had this repainted by Rob at Richmond's Bing Bicycle. Some of you may recall this bike; I picked it up on the bay a couple years back for a hundred bucks and had it set up as a beater for awhile. The top tube had been rattlecanned an almost but not quite matching red and the decals were pretty much gone.
Never had a bike professionally redone before, and this one looks absolutely great. Before shot:
The bike never quite worked as a beater. Ten years ago, maybe, but more than once I came out of a shop or restaurant to find VCU kids staring at it. It also rode real nice, and I found some Campy to drape on it. Rebuild starts soon...

Can I be nosey and ask what the respray cost you? I'm happy to take the response by PM if you'd rather not share publicly.
Very nice.

It looks great! what are the plans now? I doubt it is going to be a beater again. Is that Richmond Va?

Let's just say it was very reasonable. So reasonable, in fact, I paid him more than he asked. You can always contact him for rates. He lists $300 for a paint job on his site. Two year warranty and a very easy guy to deal with. Turnaround in my case was a couple of months, and I told him not to hurry. I supplied the decals; they were from that Australian fellow on ebay whose user id skips my mind just now...

Yes, RVA. Certainly not a beater. It's getting Campy NR and prolly tubular wheels. Scored some cheap recently, and having more proper parts kind of pushed the repaint along. It had Suntour Superbe.

Greg Softley.
Prices are definitely not West Coast prices.

Yeah, I think that's the decal guy.
I talked to Rob about six months or so about this job, and his prices seemed quite low. So I figured I would take the plunge, and gave myself a birthday present. Took the frame over to him early August. He put in a good deal of time and research; called me before applying the decals (it seems Viners often had rather, er, erratic decal placement, and what was left of the decals on my bike resembled nothing else on the interwebs. And the bikes on the interwebs don't agree with one another, either. No big surprise there. I suspect you got to put on decals at the Viner factory after you were done sweeping the floor.). I'm quite happy with the experience.

It didn't look all that bad before, but it's beautiful now. If you only paid a hundred bucks for the frame then I guess you can afford to put some bucks into a professional repaint. You'll have to post it when you get it set up.

thanks for the star in the BB shot...any objection if I copy and paste the pic into the "show us your 'drain holes'" thread?
I think it will add good reference material to the visual data base.

No objection, but when I read your above post I just went and posted it there. It seems to make sense... now off to stare at drain holes for fifteen minutes.
edit: will try and shoot the Somec's drain hole today after looking at said thread.
