Portland, ME <> St. John, NB
If you have biked Portland, ME <> St. John, NB as part of a tour, is it a commute to greater places (i.e. meh) or worthwhile on its own? From my reading, St. George to St. John appears to be a commute, but perhaps the Maine section is nice, especially with a stop at Arcadia.
Thanks

The only thing I can say about Portland to st.john is it’s further than you probably think . If you’re not familiar with Maine or it’s roads and terrain the best thing you can do is research.depending on what kind of trip you’re looking for that stretch has a lot to offer but it’s not a state I would call cycling friendly but really is a blast and some beautiful country. The greenway runs up to Calais from Portland but as of yet I haven’t had the time to get up that way . Best thing to do is study your maps carefully and plan it out for the trip you’re looking for and have fun

A "commute" is what we here in Maine call biking to and from work. In that regard Portland to St.John is not a commute but a haul 😀...it is about 350 miles and 11,000 feet in elevation gain. The 'greenway' only partially exists between kennebunk and Portland and then between Acadia (not Arcadia) and Machias as part of the Sunrise trail...the rest are secondary road miles.
