I also recently got an Escape 1. Love it. Went with the Topeak rack with a commuter bag and a basket for rides to the beach. Slide one off, slide the other on and it latches into place. Very secure. I upgraded the pedals, added some lights, water holder, iphone mount on the handlebars, and I live in NYC so I got the biggest Ulock they sell.

Very happy so far.

My 2018 Escape 1 Disk was delivered yesterday. It took almost a month from when it was ordered which felt like an eternity. My 2016 Escape 1 had been warrantied due to a cracked frame. More on that here: https://www.bikeforums.net/hybrid-bi...ked-frame.html

After a month of riding my older Giant Cypress comfort hybrid, I felt like I was flying this morning. I certainly was faster. The bike felt so light compared to the Cypress. I also love the disc breaks. Since I ride very early in the morning before the sun comes up, it is often damp out. The disc breaks will work much better in those wet conditions.

Check my thread just below this one titled "Giant Escape, Winter, Wheels, Tires, Accessories" I put a long list of all the things I bought and which ones I considered essential (Off the top of my head: mirror, helmet, lock, lights) I'm sure my list will be helpful. I love my bar ends. Also, there are two real important links in that thread, one is all about wheels, rims and tires on page 2. You'll see a chart showing you what tires are recommended for what rims and also where to find your rim's inner width, etc. Giant doesn't include much as far as measurements on their website or in their manual, so I've been on a mission to share what I have learned. I ride a 2016 Giant Escape City (same as the "2" but with accessories). It's important to note that because you have disc brakes some of my posts may not apply. Also, only things I bought from my LBS were the bike, helmet (gotta try those on) & hub locks, everything else I bought online and found great deals, I listed the prices I paid. Anyway, check the thread.

I have been riding my new 2018 Escape disc for about a month. The biggest change by far over my 2016 Escape 1 is the disc breaks. I don't think I could buy a bike again without them. Most of my rides are very early in the morning well before the sun comes up. It is often damp at this hour. The rim breaks squeaked when I stopped a great deal of the time regardless of how many times they were adjusted. The disc breaks work perfectly and quietly in the damp weather. There is also no fear about applying the breaks too hard and worrying that they might lock up.

I hope you are subscribed to this thread. I was considering ordering a new Escape Disc today. I want something that's easier to ride on the street but not as aggressive as the road bike I used to have, and the Escape looks like it fits that bill nicely. Any regrets?

I have no regrets on my Escape Disc. The bike is perfect what the type of riding I do and I am comfortable on the bike.

The website lists them as hydraulic disc brakes, from Tektro. That's what the bike will have -- hydraulic disc brakes.

lol that's why I asked. When I was in the store the other one seemed like it was mechanical, very smooth. I guess that's why it was so smooth. I was looking at it again last night and saw they were hydraulic. Got pretty excited.

I don't have a lot of experience with disc brakes, but I have used both and I would always choose hydraulic over mechanical. In fact, I recently bought a Giant Roam and was considering both the 3 (mech discs) and 2 (hyd discs). I thought I liked the blue color option on the 3, and I verified in person (at a LBS with a Roam 3) that there would be a straight upgrade path for me to switch to hyd disc brakes if I bought the 3 (and there is). As it turns out, I didn't like the 3's blue color better than the grey/blue/yellow on the 2, so I bought the 2 instead.

Yeah, the hydraulic disc brakes will be nice.

Mine arrived today! Took it around the block for a mile and I like it. Can't wait to go for a ride tomorrow and try it out.

It is a Suntek or Sunlite rack. The LBS recommended it as the best bang for bike to fit the bike, they ordered it when they ordered the bike and I was lucky enough that it came in the same day. I know I probably could have found a better deal, but I was super excited to get a new ride and for $35 I was sold. I did ten miles on it today. Slowly, but I am way out of shape. I have to do a few more saddle adjustments and I think it'll be really dialed in.
