Very nice! Quick question: how are you finding the overall quality/ride experience (if you don't mind the trouble of commenting)?

I'm very seriously considering this (the '18 Roam 0 available up here) as a second bike for bashing around/a little non-technical off-road; be interested in your thoughts!

Oh, its a very comfortable ride and for a hybrid it gives you some confidence on the trails. The Deore drivetrain shifts soooo nice.

Its equipped well for the playful terrain on the oem rubber, whereas i felt the Crosstrail and Quick CX4 i rode were trimmed with smoother rubber better for mostly road use. I put these crosscuts through plenty of river rock trails.

I test rode the Specialized Crosstrail Disc, Cannondale CX4 and Trek DS models- all lovely bikes, but when it came to Giant the Roam 2 had that 'more bike for less' appeal after my demo of it. Ultimately i was so secure in going that direction that i upsold myself to the Deore equipped model and special ordered it.

For your intended use it sounds like more than nice enough. The 2018 Roam 0 now has tubeless tires and wheels, i didn't have that option! Don't believe you would be disappointed. GL

Great response, and thank you! I asked because your bike profile suggests you ride road a lot. I do too, though not on anything like so nice as you -- but find myself constantly pushing my 'road' bike into situations where I genuinely think something like a Roam would be much better suited/mtb 'too much bike' (my full-on mtb days are long behind me).

Yes, we are lucky here (Canada): the 0 has, as well as tubeless, an almost full, current SLX drivetrain and, even better, an NCX E fork: air, aluminum steerer and stanchions = a lot of weight lost. Assuming it all works out, the bike will be a keeper.

Thanks again; really helpful.

New owner here, picked up a 2017 model with a 20% discount - been on 4 rides with it clocking around 75km so far.

Happy I found this thread

Thanks

And @badger1's correct. Picture is in the Peak District in the UK. There are some old railway lines which have been converted - meaning the gradients don't ever get too steep but there's enough elevation change to make it pretty spectacular.

I'm just planning out my next trip and look at this lol
The Monsal Trail is a traffic free route for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users through some of the Peak District's most spectacular limestone dales.

Beautiful area, and the terrain really is what these bikes are suited to.

By the way, I'd forgotten that you'd mentioned you were in U.K. in another thread, so I claim not to have cheated when guessing U.K. for the pic! Still, would love to hear a more extended account of your experience of the bike (Roam 0) so far, if you want to take the trouble.

Cheers!

Well, I've had the bike for almost a month now so I've thrown together a iMovie video.

This is the first video I've ever made. And I'm a novice biker

Hello everybody! Great group here! Lots of information! I am set on buying Roam 2 Disk. Have one question - is there any difference between 2017 and 2018 models?

Colors would be my guess. That and a possible discount IF you could find a 2017 model. I glanced over the specs and nothing stood out as different between them on the US site.

Thanks. I found one 2017 model. Only $30 less and it is 45 min. away. I don't know if it is worth to make this trip.

Can anyone confirm if the Roam 1 already comes setup with tubeless tires from the factory? If so, is that a big enough deal to get it over a Roam 2?

Where are all the Giant Roam owners at? Probably out "roaming" LOL...

Anyways, I've been eyeing the Giant Roam for quite awhile now. Last Saturday I finally pulled the trigger and got myself a 2018 Giant Roam 2. The test ride made my decision pretty easy. This bike is pretty comfy, but not slow. In fact it is pretty heavy if you try to lift it up, but once you are riding it, it feels light and maneuverable and comfy. I really like it. I would have liked to get the Roam 1, but it was outside of my budget and I didn't want to trade in my flatbar Madone just to be able to afford it. I foresee this bike being my everyday bike. It is just fun and comfy to ride around everywhere.

The current range of Roam's by Giant are pretty impressive for what they are.

I don't have any good ones just yet. I've been very busy since Saturday. I didn't even get to do a proper ride yet. Only was able to adjust the saddle height, slap on my lights, quick ride around the neighborhood then back in the garage. I promise I'll share some by the weekend

The Giant Roam lineup is pretty good. I think the Roam 2 is the "bang for the buck" option. I was supposed to test ride a Trek DS 2 before deciding which one to buy. But after test riding the Roam 2, I felt like this was a good enough bike that I didn't have to test ride the DS 2. It also helped that this new bike store I went to, was nice and very welcoming.

Okay I got my first real ride done yesterday. Here are some pics of the 2018 Giant Roam 2. After my first ride, I quickly realized that I need to install a water bottle cage on it LOL. I also love that it comes with a free bike bell.

Thanks! That is a small frame. I'm 5'6" and based on the Giant size chart, that is the only size applicable to me. It fits me pretty well thankfully. The handlebars are a little wide, but I quickly got used to it.
