Pics above , from Yesterdays 43 mi ride
Had to walk around a few spot on the MUPs
Used the roads a bit, they were the driest part
Sure could of used fenders
At 15 mph , the cspray of front of my tires hits my knees
at 17 mph it hits my glasses
Saw another bike tire track , so I wasn't the first "crazy " out there
& I left here, crazy confirmed

Alaska to S.Cal is a bit much.
Maybe you should shorten the commute San Francisco to Seattle, not too much climate or culture change. Just swap fog for damp, easy peasy.
You can see snow year round from Seattle.

Have family in Kent. (BIL uses the term, Mossbacks)
They came to Palm Springs for a couple weeks , for family visit &
some golf, riding , & sunshine.
Nice summers in Seattle
MUP RR underpass a foot of water, ice. was barely able to walk thru
Came back to AK about 2 weeks early,
Still snow here
but roads & most MUPs are ridable (like Seattle, need fender though )
Getting better daily
Already getting 13.5 hours of sun , Growing 5:44 min /day
AK Daylight chart
Frisco a bit of a reach , even for an Alaskan. LOL
MUP underpass:

Wow, mixed feelings on that. Gorgeous views but I am so sick of snow and cold weather right now.

Trying to learn more about “snowbirds”
IMO, 10 million ducks & geese
Can’t all be wrong,
they leave Alaska before winter &
many hang out on golf
courses thru winter

Your pix reminded me of our trip to Alaska ~5-6 yrs ago. Flew into Anchorage, rented car and drove to Seward
and then reversed back N to Denali. Marveled at the paved paths paralleling the highways for much of the
the distance both N and S, ideal for summer cycling and keeps you off the highway. It was early Sept and
the rugs were being rolled up in most of the hotels and restaurants around Denali for the season close.
Saw more rainbows in those 10 days than had seen in my entire life.

Wasilla today .
Still some ice/snow to deal with.
