Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I like mine, but there is no objective support for it. You can also try a tennis ball or a rolling pin.

Have you upped the miles or intensity, or is this out of the blue?

Another weekend day with wet conditions and overnight lows around freezing. I had to cancel yesterday’s ride due to ice. Trying for a 1 hour delay today to salvage a ride.

Time to move south?

My Rando bike.

I will admit to a big seat wedge so I could fit 3 tubes, and extra Co2 cartridges.

Hot.

I had an Ideale leather saddle when I lived in Portland, OR. Since I rode every day without fenders and stored the bike in a damp basement. Also being a car-free, one-bike youngster who enjoyed the nightlife, sometimes forgoing the formality of putting a plastic bag on the saddle while hitting the clubs/galleries/theaters, I often grew mold on the saddle, totally sagged it out and ran the tensioner to it's limit and gave it away after 6 years with it.

I have a Brooks B17 knockoff on the Raleigh single speed that I only ride occasionally down here in PHX, AZ. It took a while to break in but works well now. Will definitely avoid that bike on rain days.

Time to move somewhere with more consistent weather. Thinking Canary Islands.

Minor increase to intensity but I’m not sure if it is enough to justify the increase in the discomfort. What would I need to re-evaluate against the probability that it is not mileage/intensity related?

I did an easy pace ride yesterday morning (intentionally going slow is actually harder than just plain sucking) and it was right at freezing at 8 a.m. I plan on a longer ride this afternoon where it should be about 75 degrees.
