Bike Friday seatpost question

Hi Guys,

Here after a long time. We have 3 BF New World Tourists, and am in the process of stripping them for a paint job. Couple of questions.
  1. When one removes the bolt which attaches the folding seatpost to the frame, does the seatpost come off completely? I seem to have a shaft running theru which prevents me from removing the seatpost. Is that shaft removable

    ? Pic attached.
  2. Can I get spares for all the bolts, quick releases etc from Bike Friday?

IIRC there is a metal bushing that runs through there. Sounds like you are either doing the paint job yourself or disassembling for a local painter. I sent mine back to BF for a paint job and overhaul, so I didn't have to take that off. But I do believe there is a brass (?) bushing that has to be pressed out to remove the folding seat mast.

Yes, I live in India. Cant send it to BF. Dis assembling for a local paint job. That sounds right. Looks like a bushing from what I can see. Is it easy to remove?

AFAIK you need a press to do it properly. Done that way, you can probably re-use. If you bang it out with a pipe, I'd recommend you get a replacement from BF in advance. But you will still want a press to install a new one.

Thanks guys. I'll leave it in place and paint it.

Another question. I had to really hammer the lower hing rod to get it out. Is that the design? The one behind the BB.

I strongly encourage you to email Bike Friday (service@bikefriday.com) and send them your questions and pictures. They WILL respond to you, maybe 3 days at most. Since what you are doing can affect the integrity of the bike, especially during reassembly, you want to get it right.
