On 4/27/2020 at 1:25AM at mile 33 of 100 for that night a 150lb MAMA wild pig came up and side swiped me. Went down resulting in cracked left scapula, 2 cracked ribs and a punctured lung. Now that things are mending it appears that an issue also occurred in the shoulder joint that I will have ortho doc look into on Monday. Don't even like bacon.

I'm curious ... at 1:30a and on a 100 mi ride, were you way out in the country isolated? did you have to wait for someone to stumble on to you? or did you call paramedics from mobile phone? I can't even imagine the wait!!

Human, hands down.
A friend and fellow rider was on a small country two-laner and was passed by a car who’s driver laid on the horn coming up on him then pulled over immediately into his path. My friend steered right, clipped the corner of the car and flipped over a guardrail separating his shoulder and breaking a thumb. The driver told police he pulled over because an “animal” ran in front of him. I’m a lawyer. We sued. On cross examination, in the courtroom the driver could not say what kind of animal; couldn’t say if it was a ground hog or bear, though he admitted watching the animal enter the left lane, from the left, and continued to watch it cross over the right lane, under the guardrail and down into the field! Punitive damages awarded.

That is crazy! Hopefully the recovery hasn't been too painful!!

Was only 4.5 miles from home and waited about 6 minutes for cycling buddy I was with, he was actually a bit ahead of me and startled MAMA and her piglets with his lights and maybe she took offense to that, to hit the turn-around and come back then I asked him to pick up my bike and hold it so I could mount and ride home. We have plenty of housing developments with bicycling conducive road plans. Rotonda West alone has almost 100 miles of roads.
Recovery going good, rode a 12 mile TT today on my Roubaix (CRUZBIKE 2020 TT Challenge) with a 20.1mph average and finished with 51 miles.

Hornets. A couple of weeks ago one wedged itself between my closed lips and before I could spit it out it stung me on the lower lip. It hit me right between the lips, hard enough to embed itself between them. Last week one got in behind my glasses... didn't get stung though. The shock is actually worse than the sting I think, the latter is just painful for 20-30min and then goes away. But I wouldn't want to get stung in or around an eye.

[QUOTE=banerjek;12902271... the animals that scare me most when riding are squirrels because they move the least predictably...[/QUOTE]
I've run over three squirrels in the past two years. No harm to the bike or rider, but I don't think it did the squirrel any good. I haven't been afraid of them, but the photo in this thread of the squirrel tangled up in the front spokes makes me think perhaps I should be. Yes, they dart back and forth so unpredictably that it's tough to steer away to avoid them.

Another thread back from the grave.
I lived in Texas for two years (two years too many, btw) and had to dodge a few armadillo and dealt with feral dogs on a few occasions. Back in Wisconsin, squirrels, deer, coyote, chipmunks, and possums (or is it opossum?) have all given me scares. Nothing compares to humans though, especially during a "stay-at-home" pandemic. I bought a hitch rack so I could drive out of the Milwaukee area to get a ride without dodging kids on trikes, untrained yapper dogs, or families of Huffys. The first two months of the stay-at-home directive led to a lot of fun cycling around a mostly deserted, but still pretty cold city. The last month has been like summer festival season. Are we even social distancing any more?

Deer, chipmunks and squirrels. Squirrels are more predictable than chipmunks, but can really crash you. Deer can come out of nowhere - that's scary but you can't worry about what you can't control - you wake up dead or in a hospital.

I've had several close(ish) encounters with moose in Aspen... last fall, was coming down a windy road at a pretty good clip and almost ran into a cow walking down the middle of the road. Thank god for disc brakes.

Salmon ninjas. My neighborhood is full of 'em.
Manbearpig. Never seen one but I'm told they're terrifying.

Pigeons. Rode under a freeway at 20 mph straight into a pigeon taking off. Feathers smothered my face. The smell was most fowl!

I've seen a few different animals on the ride. Cats, nothing interesting. Dogs, they're okay, though dobermann pinchers are quite a challenge to outrun. It's fun though, if you're up for a sprint against a dog, they run up to around 65km/h.
What scares the **** out of me, are breeding geese. Breeding geese are overprotective of their nests and both accelerate faster than dobermann's and aim for the head as well. Had one goose fly after me for several meters until I was able to outrun him. 70km/h, not funny at all. Since then I always carry an extra bottle of water. They seem to hate to be sprayed with water.
