Does your city have a free volunteer bicycle work space?

The city I'm in right now has this great nonprofit place with tons of tools where you can show up and learn how to repair and work on bikes, or just use their tools to work on your own bike and do whatever you like. No payment required, they just accept non-mandatory donations.

I'm just wondering how common something like this is? It's such a great resource to not have to buy lots of tools or pay a lot to a bike shop. Does anyone know of cities that have something like this? If I end up moving somewhere else I'd love if there were one of these places.

I think the co-op model around here is to provide annual subscriptions of say $50 per year for unlimited access to the co-op. But, in many senses, the co-op is also run like a business.

The University also has a similar bike co-op which may be free for students.

I'm not aware of any in my area. But then again, I haven't been looking for one either.

Manchester NH.

$5 per hour shop time with a staff person (manager) on hand to assist you. Donations also accepted.
Stopped in during a ride one day and the manager walked me through a front derailleur adjustment that had been driving me nuts.

Duluth, Minnesota has the Bike Cave where you can work on your bike for free. Work enough hours there and you can get a bike, which is fantastic for many people who can't afford to buy one. The volunteers there are fabulous people and deserve a lot credit for what they give of themselves.

I had to look it up, but Louisville, KY does have one. Isn't open every day, but it's there. Gotta start somewhere. https://www.fccbikeworks.org/
