Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I am going to do that regardless of what anyone says, but can you get a good tire for $30? Do tires make that big of a difference? I usually rode $25 performance brand tires in the past.

The next step up from those are Rubino Pro, which I run on every training ride I do.

Dang. They still have the old school ones. https://www.competitivecyclist.com/v...NhdDEwMDA3Mw==

I haven't run Vittoria in years, so I don't know how the newer ones compare, but... Excel has a sale going on. Rubino Pro IV, reg and Control, for $22. G2 in all varieties (regular, Control, Endurance) for $29, etc. If you want to get really fancy, the have Corsa G2 for $36 ($69 for a two-pack).

In the "what's a trip to VA without a plumbing project?" category, the inlaw's washer has conked out. Looks like it's the drain pump. Going to see if I can source it locally tomorrow, otherwise I'll Amazon it and have it on Sunday.

I wish the best for you and your family

I had a similar issue once, but it wasn't the pump, it was the timer switch. Test before throwing parts at it.

That's VIttoria's budget tire. I do love me some Contis, but you'd find a much better ride on Vittoria Corsa G+ 2.0 LMNOPFwhatever (don't get the Speed though), or the better Michelins, or... most decent tires. I mean, for reference, the Zaffiro line is below the Rubino line, which is what comes stock on a lot of Cervelos and even those I immediately turn into emergency spare duty.

I drank the Conti Kool Aid, I suggest you try them. You may find leftover GP4000s at around $30, and I have seen the 5000’s as cheap as $34 each. Try.

It’s going to start snowing here in a couple hours. Time to go to the basement and ride some fake miles.

this wins as the best answer to the question posed. Thank you. The smoother ride must be the geometry or the size or some other factor. I'll just be happy that my bent bike is awesome.

Going to buy a replacement headlight today. If you recall on Thursday I dropped it and the plastic mount broke- the post that slides into the slot on the band which wraps around the bars.

I never liked it so good riddance. The battery never lasted as long as advertised. Now I have an expensive flashlight. I suppose I could use it to view my awesome suite of products in the dark of night. To be clear, this light is and never was awesome.

I did learn that I can get a lower lumen light which is cheaper and the batteries seem to last longer at least as advertised.

Why a no on the speed version? Durability?

damn, this super mild winter has spoiled me. I refuse to go out unless the temperature is greater than 35.... On a side note, I don’t know how I used to surf in these conditions. I even went out in a spring suite once when the water was 43....

Getting older is making me soft.

Same.
Wouldn't be in court if there was enough water to go around. Anyway, I applaud Georgia for raising water prices. Hopefully it will double your water bill.

Yes. With very few exceptions, even the pointy end of the tri field (where tires need to survive 56-112 miles total) has found them more trouble than they're worth, and that's a crew that initially fell in love with the speed of the... Speeds.

It could also be tubes - if the old bike has cheap thick nasty tubes and the new one has extra-thin race tubes, that can make a big difference. Latex tubes are another level of improvement, and I haven't found them to be a pain at all.
