I hear stories about Portland. For all I know, $750 isn't out of line for that bike. Next thing you know it, bike chains will replace $100 bills there.

This is a great entry level bike if you are wanting to get into triathlons. The Trek 1200 is a lightweight aluminum frame, with profile design aero bars, new Shimano rims, and upgraded tires. Bike has recently had an all over maintenance/cleaning.

I keep trying to sell my beloved fixed gear. absolutely nothing is wrong with it. originally was a late 80s univega that was sandblasted down. the paint is mostly perfect, one chip from a lock and a minor scratch.-- it was rattle can painted white then sanded then hand painted with PSX marine quality paint (120 bucks a gallon) so its really tough to the elements and glass smooth. it also has a 1 month old Cane Creek headset - super smooth. chrome fork. Deep V wheels. and 2 week old puncture resistant tires. velo seat. bull horn bars with new grip tape. origin 8 crank. super light weight hubs. origin 8 small clamp style brake lever. KMC STAINLESS chain - looks really nice. Origin 8 white petals. runs smooth, fast and true. always kept lubed. 54cm size i think. asking 500 OBO will deliver to anywhere near boston shoot me an email for any questions. included 2 new kenda contender all black tires. dave

It has polished alloy forks.
It needs a full restoration and repair to a broken drop out, but is a good candidate for that or make it into a fixed bike frame. It has Benotto L 9/16 3 piece cranks with sp-100al pedals(one cap is missing), Shimano brake and bar end levers with a shimano 105 front derailleur, polygon rear and dia compe front brakes, it was made in England and it has a sealed bearing bottom bracket. It is sold as is, what you see is what I have for sale.

This auction is for a Peugeot U08 1974 Yellow Road Racing Bike. Similar to the PX10, which sells in the $1000 range.I got this bike in original condition, missing the seat. the rear wheel is original. I had to replace 2 spokes under the Atom freewheel, and there isnt a tool on earth to remove it. So I changed it with a 7 speed freewheel, and respaced it. So its a 14 speed. The Rear Simplex derailleur was well known junk. It has a Suntour Long Cage on it now, but included is an unbroken Simplex Executive correct derailleur, in good condition.
Original Nervar crankset. Front derailleur original Simplex.
Frame mounted Simplex shifters.
Original Mafac Center pull brakes, on Original Mafac levers, get this, OEM lever covers AND Body Hoods!
Atax stem and bars.
Original front wheel was beyond hope. I searched until i found a period copy of the dimpled rim, on a similar Shimano hub. You have to get real close to tell its not oem, as its cosmetically the same, with the original Simplex skewer. Also included is the original Normandy high flange front hub.
Ok, its not original. those rear derailleurs broke daily, so this is an upgrade. The Atom 5 freewheel can be purchased here under 10 bucks new. Its prettier and has wider ratios as it sets.
the leather seat probably ended up as dog food, its a Velo now.
The Local bike shops cheapest entry level taiwan road bike is $450. Walmart has a Taiwan clunker for $235
The yellow paint has scratches, yes its worn, but compared to other 35 year old bikes its really nice. all stickers intact. It hangs in my shop as a display and it can stay there, I like it.
Regardless of any shipping numbers posted this is the contractural terms of the sale. I will take it down, and pack it for free, and take it to UPS.free. Buyer is responsible for exact UPS fees plus insurance. Bidding on this bike affirms agreement of these shipping terms.
Judging from the emails I have there are approximately 20 million of these in just as good of condition in every garage in america for $25. Everyone ever made has been well taken care of, Has no rust, and they all have new tires and tubes. I have made the final adjustment in price. The next step will be a you-tube video of me cutting it up for scrap with a sawzall.

With that fork it would be better off being turned into a fixed location bike.

Not the wackiest of offers. The buy-it-now price is $200 which is out of line but not out of the stratosphere. The claim that the UO-8 is similar to the PX-10 is wacky, but all in all, we see worse offers on this thread.

It was back in the 1970's, during the Hey-Dey of American Cycling, when this bike was made. I vaguely remember when the "NEW" "12 Speed" came out back then, which in today's terms makes it a 6 Speed cassette; but, for back then, this was considered an upper end bike.
Tires are about a month old and have about 70 miles on them. I like these tires because I can generally ride them daily for about 10 or so months without flats. I accidentally rode thru broken glass a few times with no flats. That's the way tires should be.
After I got this bike going, I rode it on the "PV Loop" which goes by the Trump Golf Course and back, for a total of 54 miles. I got lots of cool comments on it. The chain did have a stiff spot and while riding it up and down Westchester Parkway, the chain finally broke and I ended up walking it back, carrying the chain and riding it Flintstones style. Because a replacement chain wasn't readily available, a link section was removed and the original chain was made to work, without the stiff/broken section.
I don't know if you've ridden a vintage bike, but a number of vintage bikes that I've ridden are a bit worn and the chain has a tendancy to pop or skip, but this bike did NONE of that, even up hills where something like this becomes really noticeable.
Based on the frame joints & lugs, this is definitely a Centurion Brand, and a solid mid-level bike for back then, but for the general public, it was higher end bike. It is a Hand-Built frame. As they put it, it was built right, welded, not knurled. It's a vintage bike and the shifting and braking is a little stiff, compared to today's stuff, but that's the way it was back then; and this is a bike that a good amateur racer would've used, or used by someone who likes to go on really long rides or "Centuries" if you would; hence the name "Centurion". It doesn't really need anything. Even what clearly needs attention, wouldn't belong so just go with it. It is what it is. It's an old bike, not something that just came off the rack last month.
I'd love to keep it. I put the hammer down on this bike. No one passed me. Up hills. Down hills. Technicals. Maybe it's something about the 27 inch wheels, the longer wheel base, or the steel frame that just rolls better than what I'm used to, but it just handles really nice compared to what I ride today. It doesn't seem to beat you up as much as carbon and aluminum. Although I love it, the reason I've decided to sell it is because it really is too big for me. I ride a 54. This is a 58. It's just too big for me. If I could trade for a similar shifting bike in my size, I would, but I'm not sure I'd find one this mechanically sound and most out there have the frame or goose-neck mounted shifting, which used to play havoc on my mind back then. I just like hanging on when I'm shifting and this vintage bike allows for this.
You may or may not find a century ride to be impressive, but some of the stuff out there, you just have to wonder if it'll even make a 50 mile ride. While I was at the bike shop, a lady brought in a 1 month old mtb bike from BigBoxStore where the bottom bracket was falling apart etc etc and she claimed to have paid $300 and only ridden it for a month, 10 miles a day, 5 days a week. What? 200 miles? She also didn't strike me as one to put the hammer down on it. So, I figure, that's about the number of miles you can expect from cheaply made bikes today, between services. I'm thinking this bike can go way longer than that. It's an oldy but goody. It's kinda sad how people will spend so much for junk with a flashy paint job, and the manufacturer, not actually expecting them to ride it that much. Back then, manufacturers definitely focused more on quality. I think the next owner of this bike won't be spending as much as she did.
It's got friction shifting - Very little adjusting needed. Kids are removing the junk off bikes today, but the stuff on this bike isn't junk. It's stuff that will work. If they experience this equipment, used it as did I when I was growing up; and, if they're not too much into trendiness, they might actually find themselves appreciating it. This thing doesn't need to be trendy. Out on the bike path, as is, people notice it. They know it is special. Every wow I heard to it shows it. You don't have to believe me on this, so when you buy it, take it out on the bike path. I'm pretty sure you will get at least one wow for every 100 cyclists you come in contact with. Realistically though, especially on the weekend, I think you'll get at least 10, maybe more. Especially if you hammer past them like I did. It's not every day that they see an old race bike race by them.
Some of the names I've seen on this bike are Rear Brake - Shimano 600, Rear Derailleur - Sun Tour, so this stuff definitely works. Some of the other particulars. It's got Cinelli handlebars. A worn and torn saddle. One of the foot holders has been ground down from riding while upside down - I didn't do it. It's got scratches. I think it was repainted in the early 90's with a splatter paint job, but who knows? It won't win any contests, but at least you'll turn a few heads riding by on it.
It's just a cool old-skool bike and the person who takes the next 50 miles on it, will appreciate it and maybe decide to put a few more thousand miles on it?

It has polished alloy forks.
It needs a full restoration and repair to a broken drop out, but is a good candidate for that or make it into a fixed bike frame. It has Benotto L 9/16 3 piece cranks with sp-100al pedals(one cap is missing), Shimano brake and bar end levers with a shimano 105 front derailleur, polygon rear and dia compe front brakes, it was made in England and it has a sealed bearing bottom bracket. It is sold as is, what you see is what I have for sale.
Weren't the lugless Viscounts prone to failure? I remember looking at them in the bike shop in the late 70s and they looked cool, without lugs and with sealed bearing hubs. I never gave them another thought but heard later that there were big problems with them. I could be wrong on this however.

As far as I know, there were not problems with the frame, per se. Just the bottom bracket and, of course, the fork.

Yes, but the fork was an extremely rare occurance. Something much less than 1%. And as I remember there were no major injuries.

I did break the braze on mine at the top tube to seat tube joint, but considering I had it in a vise with pipe wrench on the seat post using a 3ft extender bar at the time.....

i'm sure it was called the death fork for it's awesome looks, not it's catastrophic failures.

i actually like the various death items: death fork, death stem....

someone posted a picture of a bike from time magazine a while back. beautiful bike but they had one of those death names too. something about the suspension making it uncontrollable.
