I would ride pretty much full-Fred at night with lights, reflective tape on the crankarms and frame (night bike) and reflective vest.
As a driver, I have come close to hitting a few runners and cyclists in "Ninja" outfits at night.
I was driving to work recently on a quiet back road and a guy was riding the same direction, but on the wrong side. I pulled up and gently explained why it's safer with traffic. He appreciated it, since he was a noob and thought the "wrong" side was correct.

Triathlete.
Making a kilometer blurry
Yeah, I'm running the Cycolite bright stuff. 850 Lumens up front, and a 2W taillight. Visibility isn't a problem, but I do have some pretty significant problems with runners in the bike lanes, and seem to have a close call every couple of weeks from a runner making three or four consecutive bad decisions when I'm being overtaken by a car.

I should get some lights so I can ride around the hills after work. There are mountain lions here, so there's that.

It's not uncommon for people to get confused about which direction to go when bicycling and walking/running. They think that the rules for running - go against traffic - apply to bicycling.

So.
Anyone else have issues with jeans squishing the dangle?
The options are:
buy jeans that fit properly around the waist but are mega tight around the thighs, which has...implications for a man's chandelier, in addition to having mostly unusable pockets (why the **** do women put up with the unusable pockets thing?!)
buy jeans that are mega large around the waist that you have to fold over under the belt, but are pretty okay around the upper leg.
Have any of you found a decent pair of jeans for this sort of thing? I'm eagerly anticipating Keirin Cut Jeans going on sale...but it'd be great if there was something out there already.
Like, this is sort of a painful problem. Charlie don't surf with hipster skinny jeans, TKP wears Express straight leg boot cut. I just want something that fits well and doesn't look like I'm wearing a denim hefty bag.

@shovelhd Sorry to hear about your eye. I was hopeful that the surgery would fix the problem for all activities, including racing. You have a great attitude. You are welcome anytime to ride with me tooling around at whatever pace we chose and then eating pizza and drinking beer. Keep up the good work as a race official and promoter. We need good ones.

Mandelier?
Honestly, normal skinny jeans work okay for me. I am not blessed/cursed with Keirin Cut thighs. In my experience calves are actually more of a problem. Mine aren't super big or anything, but they are quite a bit more developed than the skinny-fat or runner-calves physique that most stylish jeans are designed for. So removal can be a minor challenge. The look is worth it, though.

Mine have gotten a lot larger the last year but really aren't that big either. I just happen to need 29x34 but anything 32inch or narrower tends to feel really not great now. I almost want to buy some JNCOs because that would be hilarious.

Dear Stallion:
Jeans that cramp the dangle are a high class problem to have. I wear skinny jeans with stretch from Calvin Klein and say crimp and bulge and HTFU.
Best,
Also gifted.

lol, it's like more of an accessories to the stuff thing. Like crotch accouterments. Vas deferins. I dunno. It's just uncomfy, and @gsteinb RE: dad jeans I'm not ready to give up on life.

Pseudo carpenter jeans work for me, as do "relaxed fit" ones. Both work with boots. Then again I'm a grandfather, so YMMV.

I wear 34x30 jeans, requiring significant beltage, and they are still uncomfortably snug/binding at the thighs and calves. And I'm hardly Förstemann. I got a pair of the Keirin Cut jeans as a kickstarter reward, but I had to have a friend take them up a couple inches. I will report when I get them back from her.

29? I don't think you're skinnier than me and I wear 32x34 or 33x34, and just wear a belt because I don't like them tight. Uniqlo makes normal jeans that are inexpensive, or you can go to Woodbury Commons and buy Sevens, relaxed fit. More expensive but comfortable and will last years.

I have been getting "Urban Star" jeans from Costco, I go with a 31 waist and a belt. The legs have some stretch, so it is not too bad on the quads. Pockets are usuable, but there is a very distinct wallet/cell phone bulge.
And they cost C$17 which is like, what... a couple bucks American by now?

I still wear 501's. And every single pair I've owned has always worn out in the inner thigh first.

My wife got me a pair of Gap jeans a few months ago that actually fit really well. I think they are basic straight leg. It did take a couple wearings to get them to loosen up in the crotch though. That was a bit uncomfortable.
That said, the front pockets are nearly useless for carrying keys or phone. It's almost made consider getting a bag that I put all that stuff in. Almost.

I have 2 pair of jeans from banana republic, probably 2004ish. They have stretched in all the needed places.

i get why running against traffic is safer...for them. however, as a cyclist i feel like this exposes *me* to additional risk. in order to pass, i have to swing out into traffic. sure, i look over my shoulder, but there's additional risk. i live in a rural area so traffic isn't too big a concern, but i still wonder about what is right.
i feel like in this scenario the runner should step off the road. it allows the cyclist, moving with traffic, to continue unimpeded and does not put them at additional risk. for the runner, it's a minimal impact. also, it goes along with my policy of not getting in the way of stuff that is bigger/moving faster than you.
in most of these encounters, the runner doesn't cede any ground.
(when i'm a runner in this scenario, i step off the road.)
genuinely curious.
