Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sigh! Home again, home again, jiggity jog. Goodbye Nevada. Goodbye Cali. Goodbye Columbus. Oh, wait. That’s another story.

Yeah, when you're in that NE Corridor and you leave it, it's a smack-you-upside-the-head difference.

I haven't seen you on the Strava boards, have I? Do you Strava, 'cause if you don't, then your rides never happened, anyway.

Even in Pittsburgh. Both women working the hotel desk were morbidly obese. It was sad because one of them looked to be only in her mid-20s.

I have also noticed the difference touring in Montana. The last two times I was there I was in the sticks and then later arrived in Whitefish, which is a well-off that is not that far from Glacier N.P. Both times I rode from the state park on the edge of town to the very busy Safeway for groceries and immediately noticed the difference in the number of healthy weight individuals/families.

My wife thinks her back might be able to handle a 20-25 mile tandem ride. I think she saw some pics from 2 years ago and got nostalgic for a Fall tandem ride. I told her that I’m in!

Yeah, it's not as drastic as moving out of the NE corridor, but I do see that difference between metro and urban/suburban areas even in MN; maybe that's more economic, as you allude to - perfect instance to look at BMI, and I'm sure that there are numerous studies out there already.

.

Don’t tell anyone, but it’s actually my friend Stan because I don’t have a picture of me up the rig. However, often being the lightest guy on the crew, I have spent my share of time up there.

What’s the group?

Your secret is safe.

I just stalked you. If you look at my profile, you'll see the group (it's the only one that I'm a part of).

If you really want to be a Strava stalker, the "flyby" feature is your friend.

Oh, I definitely make use of that feature. It's interesting to see at least a part of the story that's behind the people that you cross paths with. It's mostly gratifying to see that the fast folks are faster for a reason - they put in the work, a lot of it, most of the time.

I seemed to have missed Seeds' departure. What happened? Or are we not allowed to talk about it here?

He did not go away angry. He chose to simplify his life and move on. I have been in touch with him and he said ok to let everyone know all is good. If you really want to reach out to him I have his email you can PM me.

Great to see White Lightning out burning up the streets again!

Out tandem has been collecting dust for a while, as Ramona's afraid of traffic. I told her there's always gravel, but she's not a fan of that either.
