Show me your re-finished frames?

As I lean out my bike collection I have a 1990 Cannondale ST600. With factory dented chain stays it has clearance for wide rubber and all the touring accoutrements. The paint though! It’s in rough shape. I need inspiration!
So steel, aluminum, rattle can or powder coat, what are some options, results, lessons learned?
And...
PICTURES!

I will put up my ST when I get home so you can see the starting point. I swear!

I really wanna refinish my ST before I build it. I dunno what the hell the previous owners did, but their attempts at touching up were terrible. Didn’t choose a matching red, no polishing.

Fades!

Muted panels

Bright panels!

Black

Spray paint may not be the most durable, but it is fun to get creative. I have found that the Rustoleum American Accents works pretty well: lots of coverage, dries fast, many colors, and more durable than you'd expect. More durable than the other brands I've tried.

I've had a Cannondale pwdercoated before and it came out great.

This is a steel frame, powdercoated.

Covers well, but not too thick.

This powdercoat is now almost four years old and after 7K+ hard miles still looks great.

Trek Singletrack 930. Rustoleum Gloss Black, Velocals, then Duplicolor clearcoat for the decals. Quick, cheap (except for the decals) and easy project. Minimal damns were given. Fun bike but it was too small for me, gave to to my sister.

Have done two repaints, but both were aimed at trying to recreate an original look - albeit in different ways, rather than a perfect paint job.

Rattle can job, for my clunker challenge contender.

Before:

After:

Painted with a brush, hoping to get that mid-century vibe.

Good idea for a thread.

I brush painted my 1974 Raleigh International. I have no skill or experience, so it didn't come out well, but I don't mind.

Before.....in a hodge-podge fixture I put together to rotate the frame for it's new paint job.

IMG_1281

After....

IMG_1832

I did the prep and paint work myself. Paint is urethane base coat followed by several layers of clear. Lots'a clear makes it relatively easy to fix the inevitable "aw-****s"! Decals are from Velocals of Australia. I did not apply clear over the decals.....no guts! I've put a heap of miles on this bike over the past 15 months. The two-part urethane paint is really tough and it has yet to pick up a blemish. The bare decals have not deteriorated either.

While I have you, a dear friend thinks the old tractor seat is the coolest thing in my workshop......it was my Dad's.

Spray can Titanium color from Rustoleum on a Trek 510 after sandblasting (while doing metal lawn furniture) and many braze-ons by an area framebuilder. More titanium, in fact, than on all my other bikes combined. Good enough for me.

Awaiting the blast.

Ready to ride.

This re paint is not to shabby at 8' , don't get much closer . It's a little orange peeley in a few places . Again rattle can out doors . Bike is a 85' Centurion Comp TA , butchered by yours truly .

The lug striping was done by a wino that I gave 5 bucks and a bottle of Thunder Bird to . Mswesti picked the color .

Just wanted to say there are some superb examples of DIY paint jobs here!
