ISO: Bottle Cage Clamp Mounts

howdy
I picked up an old Schwinn Super LeTour 12.2. It's got no bottle mounts. I'm searching for vintage style clamp on bands, if such things exist.
Or even the clamp bottle cages from way back when (although I think they probably all broke, from what I read).
I don't want go with the VELCRO type: https://www.jensonusa.com/SKS-Anywhe...YaAn4eEALw_wcB
- but if nothing else pops up, I might have to go with that.
- no, I am not using RivNuts. So please don't suggest those. I am only going to put holes in the frame if I decide to paint it. And since I greatly over paid at $50 for the frameset (less bottom bracket :| ) I am not planning on painting it unless I keep it long term ~ then I'll braze a set of bosses into the frame.

Let me know what you got. I'm contemplating fabricating my own, since I cannot seem to find this style: https://www.amazon.com/Ryder-Water-B.../dp/B015SAGLJK
- Although those would be grand. My Google cannot locate a set of me.
thanks.

I have a few of those somewhere in the black hole I call a garage. I'll try to dig them up tomorrow.

I tried a set of those, and they didn't work for me - Impossible to get them tight enough, so they just continually slipped - Too flimsy

If you can find vintage straps, they will hold your bottle cage in place.

For some reason the new stainless ones are really bad.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/OLD-BIKE-BO...A/202443449443

Your bottle cage, of course, has to be the proper shape for the straps to catch (mount on little wings sticking out).

I haven't tried the Velo Orange above, but I've had really bad luck with cheap e-bay straps.

These work pretty well too, I have a couple of sets in use with no issues, and they look right on vintage bikes.

I too had bad luck with the VO cages clamps until I used a length of scrap inner tube under the clamp. Completely solved the problem and also protected the frame. I verified that it would work by mounting a VO Mojave cage with a liter of water in a Nalgene then riding it over 60 miles of gravel with numerous shakey descents. Coming down a particularly steep hill with particularly bad washboards, I ejected my Nalgene bottle, but the cage was still rock solid. (I judiciously bent the cage together a bit and the Nalgene is also now rock solid.)

I have the VO moderniste cages and the mounting tab is somewhat short and tapered - not ideal for a clamp. I had to Dremel a bit of a notch in the tab so the clamp could get better purchase. Worked great and they sure look good!

You could try a pair of DMR Hinged Clamps. I've got these on two bikes. Rock solid.

I didn't read your post thoroughly in my half inebriated state last night. Sounds like you are looking for something nicer than what I have to offer. But, you're welcome to these for the cost of postage.

Thanks for the replies everyone! BikeForums to the rescue!

@FBOATSB ~ that thing is too kool for skool. I'll send you a PM about it. With that single mounting strap, does it get a bit wonky with a tall bottle? I'm thinking Gorilla tape under the strap, and if it gets a bit rattly, I hit up @brian3069 for a set to tie down the bottom end. I spend much time bouncing around dirt roads and other places that my wife says is trespassing.

@Vintage Cyclist ~ I was searching for that exact thing from Problem Solvers and Origin8. I know they used to make / market them. Thank you for the wiggly lead!

@brian3069 ~ I'll let you know, but I do not believe I have any cages that will accommodate.

@seedsbelize ~ I saw that TOPEAK and was unsure it would rotate. It seems like it's sticking way out there from the tube. Sounds like you have no complaints about it, so I will keep it in the back of my mind for now. Thanks!

These look fabulous. I may try them on the Batavus!

Until I saw these I was going to suggest going with radiator hose clamps! It is a hack solution but a strong one!

Those look classy, I could see getting a few pairs.
Although I'm more of a P clamp kinda guy, I have one bike that would demand some class. I have one bike that has 10 P clamps on it so far....

I think I saw those, but it looked like they might stick out - off of the frame tube pretty far. Seeing it "in action" it looks OK. Thanks!

awesome. Works great. A smidge big for modern bottles, but looks super. Put a bit of gorilla tape under the clamp to protect the highly scratched up 42 year old frame.
