Weekend Cycling Reports - May 17/18
Is it a long weekend where you are? Whether it is or not ... tell us about your cycling this weekend. Where did you go? What did you ride? Who did you ride with? Got pics?

This weekend I'm down with a virus ... doing laundry felt like riding a century. So I'll have to live vicariously through your stories.

Bunch of Rain Earlier, got a little sunny, and now its just cloudy and dreary, so bikeable now. And we cracked 50 degrees today, so there's that. On the plus side, no Thundersnow! (Welcome to Cleveland: Experience all four seasons in a few hours!)

Did a group ride of 16 riders with my cycling club at a B level. We did 47.4 miles and 3100 ft. of climbing at 14 mph. It was a serious workout but I had enough left to finish with the first rider and at age 68 that is a real victory for me.

I went to a bike party yesterday with 1000 other riders in San Jose. It was very fun and loud.

Reading that, no-one around here except for a few like me would know what you went through to get back to this point. I can well understand why it was a real victory for you.

Thank you. I really appreciate that you remember any of my "drama." I am extremely grateful that I have been able to rise above what was truly a live or die experience. Thanks again for the acknowledgement.

I had a nice solo ride today- 36 miles of my favorite hills. My normal winter 33-mile route plus a few more miles tacked on because it was just a spectacular spring day in western Oregon.
I did it on my 2014 Roubaix, which is getting lots of use. This was my 4th ride this week, totaling 125-ish miles. Same basic route. Lots of steep hills. It's a beautiful thing. I'm really liking this bike.
I'm having an internal debate about whether to continue my winter regime of 33-mile intense rides, as opposed to how I did the last couple months last fall, when I was doing less intense 50-60 mile rides. I kinda like the shorter workout as I'm busier'n hell these days so cutting an hour plus from the ride is appreciated. But just as importantly, I just like the intensity vs. the extra endurance... when I get past 3 hours in the saddle the contact points get more annoying than the fatigue.
I might ride tomorrow with a buddy if the weather allows. I'm stronger than him right now by a fair margin so it'd be a recovery ride for me. It'd be a nice cap on a good week.

Sunday -- a little, casual, slow walk. We needed to get out for a bit of fresh air.

I've been riding the mountain bike trails the last three weeks. 19 miles yesterday along with 18 and 22 the last 2 weeks. Some of the trails get closed once the daily summer afternoon showers start, so I wanted to get on the trails that I may not get back to until the fall. I will probably get back on the pavement next weekend.

Rode from the city along linear Park bike path then up Gorge Road in a very relaxed manner. It was overcast but still the Autumn trees were beautiful.

Saturday: Left the house around 3pm for a 30 mile ride with a buddy of mine. Brutal North winds made it tougher than usual but tho ride put me over 1000 miles for the year.
Sunday: Group ride with about 6 people for 28 miles with a stop at the bagel shop for breakfast.

A few of us from the Utah Velo Club did our annual (6 day) tour of our local area this week. The weather was nothing short of perfect. We did 640 miles in 6 days with 29,000 feet of climbing, and it was a great time. Props to all who particpated!

Having decided to work on bringing the speed up,
We did the shorter run for time- 39 miles, 2600' - one of the flatter rides around here.
I was shooting for 18 mph average- missed it by 2 minutes.
Headwind going out was pretty tough, and the third in our group, a 95 lb woman, didn't pull at all, having done a hard ride yesterday.
I can feel it in some leg muscles that I didn't even know were there.

Unexpectedly nice weather today for the weekly Sunday ride. 56 miles and 2156' on the tandem at 15.5. 247 hrTSS. I was the Tandem Captain From Hell. Following an early minor mechanical, we did 90% of it solo. We gave it everything we had. Our first mountain pass assault of the year is next weekend. Good training.

Sun: 101mi 19 avg. my best century so far. it's amazing what happens when you eat enough to not feel like crap the last 20mi. I tried Lim's rice cakes with apple/cinnamon.. really tasty.. plus a hammer gel and clif bloks. perfect weather in the 70s and a good group to ride with.
