Great article on the gap and everything he says is exactly right.

Another wonderful read that also made me sad. My early 80's Gap was ruined by a friend who "rode it off a curb". It was one of my smoothest riding bikes out on the road.

The wheels aren't classic but it rode so great with them on it. Fast, smooth, and responsive, a true joy to pedal. This was a repaint with some mods but ID'd by Basso as an 80's Gap.

The detail of "Record" componentry is confusing when looking at the pics.

The '84 that have I think was equipped with Campy Gran Sport originally. My Gap, back yard painted, is one of the best resto-builds I've done.

I put all Shimano to the '84. The stance is more aggressive than I prefer, this is I've smallest kept. This is a 57, I'm more comfortable with a 59-60. It's been a few years since it's been used.

Jamesdak, oh man that was a crusher reading about that. Your Gap was a beauty, hopefully someone is or was able to correct.

Aren't those C Record? I can never identify them easily honestly compared to the same era other campy stuff.

I was going to say that Campy was so behind the times with those levers, but I guess it kinda goes without saying.

FWIW I think those Cobalto levers can be run aero or non-aero.

I've owned a couple of Bassos back in the 80s and loved them. I always wanted one in the "Jamaica" colors.

Love it.

I am so sorry that it happened I don't know what I would have done if someone did this to one of my bikes
