Gary Fisher Marlin sizing - Pre-Trek
I'm looking at a Gary Fisher Marlin approx. 2004 which is before acquisition by Trek. It is for my early 12 year-old grandson, approx. 5' tall. However, I can't bring him to size it properly. Beyond that, though, I'm looking for a bike he could use a bit now and for more than a year additional. The bike is a 16" (which I think would be good), but I'm not certain what that means as Gary Fisher bikes at the time had a unique geometry. Can anyone tell me the height range for a 16" Marlin in the early 2000s?

In the oughties Fisher came up with a geometry system it called Genesis. Key points were longer top tubes, shorter stems, longer fork offsets, and shorter chainstays. The idea was to make the bikes more nimble. Since then every bike manufacturer has adopted variations of this.

have two mid 90’s 15.5 Gary Fisher MTBs - they would be too big for a 5 ft tall 12 yr old
standover would be an issue - as would the reach (top tube length + stem)
when my kids were 12 they rode 24” MTBs including above Gary Fisher Tyro - then later moved to 13.5 / 14” 26” MTBs
