Rotor Crank. Spider and crank arm problems.

Hello.
I bought a Rotor 3D24 track crank brand new and had it on my bike for about a month or two before I noticed that the chainring would wobble. After closer inspection I realized it was actually the 4 bolts that attach the spider to the crank arm that were coming loose. I went to a bike shop and they confirmed that the bolts were loose. I emailed rotor and they said that over time those bolts would have to be resecured with Red locktite. So I went ahead and bought a new set of bolts and applied what they recommended and it worked but sadly not for a long. It lasted about 2 months and again loose. And I'm wondering if this is this a common issue among this crankset?
Because I don't believe that I have to keep doing this every month on a 300 dollar crank.

Any help is appreciated thanks.

Were the bolts properly torqued before applying Loctite?

Red Locktite (most grades) is considered a "permanent" thread locker and requires heat to remove the bolts. I expect you didn't properly degrease the bolts and nuts before applying it. Remove the bolts and nuts, clean them with acetone to remove all traces of oil, grease and previous Locktite residue, apply new Locktite and reinstall to proper torque. They should never come loose again.

Bolts were brand new and cleaned at a proper bike shop before the locktite was applied.
I will try it again though!

Were the threaded holes that the bolts go into properly cleaned?

There is no such thing as "locktite" There is a trade name "Loctite®" for adhesive products including a whole line of thread lockers. 3M also offers thread lockers with the same color coding. Loctite 271 (one of the reds) will not come apart if the mating surfaces are properly prepared, and the fasteners torqued to specification; without the application of a lot of heat yellow cylinder MAPP gas required, the blue cylinder gas is not hot enought.

Sorry I did not know the grammar police was here. But yes everything was cleaned properly and I used "Loctite red 271®"

I will try again. Thanks.

FWIW, There are generic substitutes made by companies not owned by Permatex Corp.

Loctite, the real brand name product, is made by a division of Hinkel, not Permatex.
