Just a run over to Issaquah, but with a purpose. Blue sky. Mild temp. Full sun. Breezy. No hurry. The “How narrow should handlebars be?" personal experiment continued. With a few extra miles added = about 30 total and no concerns.

I have such bars on two bikes and I’m happy. I like the feel. I do rotate the brake lever bodies/hoods outward a wee bit more though so the levers fall right under my fingers. Nice bike.

Today's ride was something pretty damn special. The Wounded Warriors Project had a ride up here today. I took the day off to shoot the event. So happy to share the roads I love with my fellow disabled vets. I threw some camera gear in a backpack and just leap frogged along the route catching hundreds of shots of these amazing riders. Really touched by the staff riders taking care of the others and even helping some with the hills and such. Great turn out by the valley residents to cheer the riders along. The whole Elementary School even came out and lined the road to support the warriors. Pretty humbling event. I'm still processing all the pictures I took but here's a small sampling.

I began second guessing my choice of Eroica bike during todays ride. Blaming my fitness but maybe 45/21 is MUCH more bigger than 42/24. When I’m barely crawling up 8% dirt, and the road ramps up to 10, I couldn’t turn the pedals.

Just shy of four hours around the harbour in Wellington, NZ yesterday. Minor technical data point is that a 700x28 Conti. GP5000 wouldn’t fit under the flat fork crown on a 15mm ID Mavic Open rim but does on these H Plus Son TB14s with about 19mm ID as the tyre doesn’t sit as high.

Perfect late summer day - 72 degrees, blue skies, wind blowing from the east. Did a quick 32 up the shore.
Wind was straight off the lake, whipping up 10 ft waves.

I got in forty-five on the Moser today. 71F when I left and 74F when I returned. Temperatures are already starting to dip a bit, so this may be my last ride over 40 miles for this season. No flat tires this summer! That may be a first, considering that this was a relatively high-mileage summer. Partly cloudy. A funny aside to my ride, yesterday.
I hadn't done any rides over forty miles since the nineteenth of the month, and I seemed to be really mashing the low gear when going up-hill. It took some doing and was slow-going. I wondered if I could have fallen out-of-shape that quickly and precipitously. I wondered if my hubs needed new grease. Then, as I was cleaning my chain and flossing this morning, I noticed that I had put a free-wheel with a 22T low sprocket on the Moser. I had forgotten that I did that (emoticon with surprised look, shaking its head).
That brought me to 50.23 gear inches, even slightly-higher than the Barnard. I had never ridden a road bike without a 28T low sprocket before (usually have one on the Moser, too). I guess that explains the crunching. Maybe it's best I didn't know, because it could have played a head-trip on me. Now, I can use the close-ratio freewheel with confidence, knowing that I can handle it. Barely.

Really touched by the staff riders taking care of the others and even helping some with the hills and such. Great turn out by the valley residents to cheer the riders along. The whole Elementary School even came out and lined the road to support the warriors. Pretty humbling event. I'm still processing all the pictures I took but here's a small sampling.
