Lucky 13! CCRT Autumn ride.

Once again, this ambulatory social event is on! Can be either Saturday Oct 8 or Sunday the 9th, whatever works for folks. 45-ish miles up and back the Cape Cod Rail Trail from the Dennis trailhead to South Wellfleet. Casual pace, stops along the way. Hope to see more than the usual suspects, we had a good turnout in the spring.

As my mother would say, I have ants in my pants and cannot wait. I leave for Cape Cod tomorrow morning. Given the rain all up the coast, I’ll probably drive straight to Fall River to visit Battleship Cove. Then onto the Cape tomorrow evening. CCRT Tuesday. MV on Wednesday. Bruce Freeman Trail Thursday. Then either the Farmington Trail or the North County trail Friday.

That should do it, eh? But I’ll not drive up again for the 13th annual. Sorry.

I've had enough feedback from folks off-list to call it for Sunday.

Okay, we are planning to make this trip. We will have returned from vacation in Maine on Friday. But, um, my calendars all insist that Sunday is October 8, not October 9. Just checking to be sure. Life is complicated enough these days without having to reconcile two different calendar standards.

Do not bother me with the limited concept of linear time. I said the Sunday of the Columbus Day weekend, just make whatever calendar your working from work with that.
(Just finished a metric Century ride with the last 15 k being plateauing hills with no descents. I'm a little cranky......)

I haven't done the semi-annual rides for a few years. Time to get back to it. Thanks to Jim & Sharon for getting in touch. I've been off the bike for a bit, so I probably will turn back before the end of the trail. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Weather reports for Sunday just keep getting better and better. Jim and Sharon, if your up here in Maine this week your are indeed blessed with a classic 'Indian Summer'.

Did this last year when passing through the cape, camping at Nickerson SP. Picked up this CCRT route map at the park office.
Wish I could join, enjoy!

Eek, the Saturday forecast is troubling right now, interfering with my plan to bike from Boston to Dennis Port on Saturday and join you all on Sunday. But it's New England; that might change.

Ride report... We did it! A few expected riders didn't make it but those of us who did had a great time. It was sunny, cool and breezy. The headwinds got to be a bit much on the ride back but hey, all but one of us were on vintage wheels. We can ride through anything!
Of course the start meant standing around for a while, catching up on whatever everyone had been doing, bragging about how fast our bikes were, that sort of thing.

Today's riders were (L to R) Spiker, Jim (ADguy), Gany, myself, Sharon, Dave (OTG), Top.

First stop was at Nickerson State Park. Another chance to brag about how fast our bikes were.

The highlight of the day was lunch! It was also our turnaround point in Wellfleet. Lunch is good. Lunch is always good. And did I mention lunch?

At the end. The astute observer will have noticed that some of the bikes are showing the drive side. The rest of us are just being contrary. Hey, that's the vintage-bike crowd for ya'. The astute observer will also have noticed that the number of faces is not quite equal to the number at the start. OTG and Spiker had reasons to turn around in Orleans instead of riding on to Wellfleet.

The good news is that no one got hurt, no one had a mechanical issue, no one had a flat tire. We must have done something wrong for all those things to have happened. I mean to not have happened. It was a great day.
