I recently saw on a thread a link aboya making a "cloth type" bag for the bike for transport. Last year we flew to eurEur via Iceland Air and used plastic mattress bags. They survived the trip but TSA slit them open for inspection. The link

show a bag that is of interest as it would allow easy inspection without destroying the bag.
Based on the link it seems like the spacke size and weight might be comparable to the plastic on I used.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. I'd probably use zippers instead of velcro if it is going on a plane, and custom size it for your bike.

seems cloth would be more durable.

maybe you could combine them......cloth bag with plastic windows sewn in? or maybe some longish zippers on the sides with "inspection port" labels?

Reads like the Problem was TSA,, not the bag.. I have not flown since Y2000.. due to Patriot act enabling the TSA.

I have used a Trico case and also eBike shipper boxes from Uline. I have never flown without TSA opening my bike carrier. Generally TSA is careful, although they are careful in the way someone who doesn't love the bike is careful. I like using the Uline box as I can fold it up into a small package and then inexpensively ship it to my ride's destination for use to ship my bike home. Unfortunately, a few times they've cut the box open and rendered it unusable for future trips. This trip we're using Airport Ninja bike bags with zippers; I'll let you know how we fare.

I was browsing the other day and saw these (though the one you linked may be the airline bag). It was a bit confusing because both the rinko bags have a note in the description, "The bag only drapes over the bike and does not bear the weight of the bike." Yet on one of them there's a picture of the bag hanging from a shoulder strap with (I'm guessing) a bike inside. Do you know if you can carry the package by the bag or straps, or do you need to grab the bike inside the bag to lift and carry?

I like the size and it would work with iceIand Air I would still need something for the return flight.

But still might just go with the mattress bags again with lots of extra padding and then wrap the whole thing in strech wrap. By using tape and strech wrap it might hold up better to the TSA inspection.

I went to Iceland in Jun/July 2016. At the start and end of my trip I stayed at the Hostel near the campground in Reykjavik and they had a note in their luggage room that you should put your bike boxes on the top shelf and fold them flat. The adjacent campground at that time according to their website would also store bike boxes if folded flat. If you wanted to stay at one of these locations, I would suggest you verify first that they can store your bike box by e-mail.

I had a S&S backpack case that I pulled the side pieces out of to collapse it nearly flat and left it in their luggage room for a month without any problem.

A few others on this forum have also had no difficulty storing bike boxes in Iceland, but I am not sure where.

How long are you staying there?

Try to get a copy of their cycling map first thing. It shows where the steepest hills on the roads are, where the campgrounds are, it is the best cycling map I have ever used. And it is free. Printed on plain paper, so when wet it falls apart, thus you should take one for each week you will be there. Bonus is a grocery store chain, most stores are in or near Reykjavik, it is a great store to stock up at before you leave town.

Have a great trip. A couple friends of mine stopped there for a couple days on a layover, they both commented about the high costs there. But their hostels are quite affordable if you wanted to stop for a couple days of sightseeing.

We have thought about it but we would have to haul our bikes and all our gear into town. The airport has no left luggage area available. We passed through there last year and it is not a huge airport.
