Craigslist Touring Bikes

Like many of you, I love to cruise the Craigslist in my area for deals. Sometimes I come across a decent bike - not for me, but would be perfect for someone else. I'm thinking that maybe we should start a thread in here which could alert others to these CL ads. Here is my submission of the day:

https://boston.craigslist.org/sob/bi...686203179.html

Are you 4'10" to 5'2" and want to take an epic tour or want a great all rounder? 1985 Miyata SixTen sport touring bike.Miyata manufactured lugged triple butted chromoly frame measures 18" center of crank to top of seat tube. Low boy bosses on front fork.Factory aluminum expedition rack.700x32 mm tires on Ukia alloy rims. 36 spoke front and 40 spoke rear. Shimano light action derailleurs with ratcheting down tube friction shifters 3x6 for a total of 18 speeds.Cantilever brakes. Fluted Alloy seat post with original Selle Royal black suede saddle.Padded bar wrap on randonneur handlebars. Condition is excellent. You can spend 5 times as much for a Trek 520 or Surly LHT and you'll get a few more ratios and a welded frame. You'd have to go Rivendell to get Japanese lugged Chromoly.First $300 picked up in Harwich takes it. I answer responses that include a phone number.

Its for a shorter person, but would be great for a still-growing teen as well. Post your ideas about this thread!

You should copy and paste all the ad info into the thread as well, like in the C&V equivalent thread. Helps preserve the desription and price for future reference.

Yeah, good idea for a thread. Doesn't need to be limited to just bikes either. Panniers and camping equipment could also be listed here.

I've had this bike for 6 or 7 years and never road it. I got it from my grandfather who was an avid rider.
My intent was to start riding but never did.

It was tuned up a few years ago and is in perfect running shape.

It has a number of upgraded parts, please see pictures or contact me with any specific question.

1985 Trek 620
$550

Size: 55cm top tube C-C; 52cm seat tube, C-T.

For sale is a 1985 Wisconsin-made Trek 620. This is a rare, classic touring/commuter bike; 1985 was the only year this model came with the same super-long chainstays as the 720 touring model. I bought the frameset in 2016 and built it up that year. However, it's been ridden sparingly since then--maybe 200-300 miles. Part of the build is a custom Alex (DM?)19 wheelset w/Tiagra hubs, made by Mill City Cycle. Frame is Reynolds 531cs with three water-bottle braze-ons.

Other parts:

Sugino triple, 50-45-28
New Shimano Altus 8-spd, 11-30
Shimano 600 FD
New Shimano bar-end shifters and levers
Nitto Noodle bars, Specialized Roubaix-S tape
Shimano N.O.S. Cantis
Panaracer Paselas 700 X 35c
Laprade fluted seatpost, Avocet touring saddle
(Sorry, no pedals, but I can throw on a pair of platforms.)

I like a man who learns from his mistakes. 😉
I honestly don't see a whole lot of full-on touring bikes on CL, mostly sport touring. Those are plentiful. But they are out there, if you're stubborn. 😋 I got my ST600 from CL.

Bruce Gordon custom steel frame BLT-X touring bike - $350 (Concord, NH)

From one of the premiere touring bike designer/builders. Purchased in 2006 and used on a single cross country trip in 2007. Minimal other use since then. Designed for my 5'10" height with 26 inch wheels. Tires in good condition. This bike would be $2000 new except that Bruce Gordon has retired - so it will also be a collector's item. Includes front and rear pannier racks and fenders. Designed and equipped for serious touring

^ I'd consider buying that BG if it fit, but I'm not near NH to inspect or pickup, so what good does a CL thread really do? You can search all of CL within a specified radius of zip code, and are more likely to find something in your size nearby:

Simple. The more people that participate, the more people that get a good lead on a good bike. Lots of decent bikes within a 500 mile radius of me. It won't hurt me in the least if this thread dies, but if I can help ONE PERSON then it'll be worth it.

Besides, it is just fun to look. The racks alone on that BG are almost worth the asking price.

Most of the bikes that I see advertised as touring bikes are stem shifter equipped, vintage, non touring bikes.

I thought it was a good enough idea to post a couple of finds. Love touring bikes, and buy 'em sometimes.

If that bike was here, I'd buy it for a flip. That's a $400 bike all day long in these parts.

In the C&V section, there is a facilitators thread (https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ling-able.html), people that may be local to a bike that are willing to help purchase and ship it to you. If you are really interested, maybe see if there is anyone close willing to assist. I'd be intrigued abotu the BG as well, but I already have a bike that more or less fills that role.

I'm always willing to lend a helping hand for anything in my neck of the woods, so long as I am not handling any money part of the transaction (i.e., Paypal the seller and send me a prepaid shipping label)
