Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It appeared that I was suffering from dehydration, and I wasn't thirsty in the least. When I finally took a big swig of water, the geometric shapes in my left peripheral vision vanished instantly.

Black and white, bold geometric patterns, in mylar. I felt fine, but realized this was strange enough to stop and do something about.

I'm no medical expert, but apart from flushing something down your throat, I don't think taking a drink of water is going to "instantly" fix anything.

I couldn't believe it either. I initially thought I needed food, specifically salt, so I bought a couple bags of Ruffles. Halfway through the second one, nothing had changed and I became concerned about how I would get home--my wife was out with the car for the day. So I tried water, and voila! It truly was instantaneous.

Mine doesn't and, after having been all day on the charger, lasts about half a minute. Lemon. Perhaps Amazon will take it back.

This serves as a reminder that if you've properly pre-hydrated, your body is wet inside and you have no need for further drinking for an hour+ of riding.

When you get something like that you need to give it a long (possibly overnight) charge before using it. Did you do that?

Since my C-spine surgery 11 yrs ago, I find it pretty hard to drink on the bike without dripping water down my windpipe and coughing my brains out. These days, I barely drink on any ride under 2.5 hours, unless it’s hot.

Incorrect. I pre-hydrate to the tune of two liters. Any more than that and I'm uncomfortable. Today, after 2 hours, I was dehydrated. I had water with me, but wasn't thirsty. Your solution likely works just fine in Knoxville.

Yes. And then I charged it all day today and it accepted none of it. I'm returning it for another one. I will say though, that I have never encountered worse directions for use.

Here, it's always hot, and high humidity. This answers @WhyFi's concern too. When I used to visit this area, 30 years ago, it made no difference in which month of the year I arrived, it was always way too hot. If I'm doing an evening ride in the summer, I'll stop every hour, or less, and drink a cold liter of water. And I hardly ever have to stop and pee. It all comes out as sweat.

Oh, don't get me wrong - I don't think that it's an absurd amount of water over the course of a ride, I just think that it's a metric ****-ton of water to be drinking before you even turn the cranks over once. I couldn't do it.
