The building is allegedly going to be demolished to make way for residences. The inside has already been demolished. Lots of development in the area, especially now since the first phase of the Philly version of NYC's High Line has opened.
Never been to Woodmere. Have to confess that I am bad a taking advantage of many of the city's offerings. Except for a two-year stretch in '99-'01, I have lived in either Spring Garden or Fairmount since 1992, yet I have not once set foot inside Eastern State Penitentiary.

I'm building another hub, from scratch. I did a little research, when shopping for specific cones, and found that cups and cones are not rocket science. I will therefore install the one axle from the box that fits, two cones from the box, which fit the axle, and new bearings and grease. What could go wrong?

If you go to Google Maps, look up 1100 Vine Street in Philadelphia and switch to Satellite View you can seen the swath of green that heads north/northeast and the spur section. The northern border of the main portion will be Fairmount Ave. since the realigned commuter line ties back in to the former Reading right-of-way just north of there.
I work for Conrail. We used to own the NYC one. It then went to CSX after our acquisition. Can you believe the city wanted to tear that thing down? The financial cost of that would have been immense. My boss was instrumental in its preservation. Now look at the development it has spurred. If you haven't toured it you should if you are ever in NYC. Go early. It gets super crowded. Sort of a victim of its own success.
Funny tidbit...One member of the Friends of the Highline, which raised money for the project, was Patty Hurst, once known as Tania.

212 N. 12th Street, former home of Sigma Sound Studios, which put out some of the greatest American music ever. The O'Jays, Billy Paul, The Intruders, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Laura Nyro & LaBelle (Yes. Patti LaBelle, before she was famous.), Three Degrees, just to name a few. Even the Jacksons and David Bowie recorded there. Often backed up by members of the Philadelphia Orchestra and others, collectively called MFSB.
Sad.
Sad.
Tragically, Janis Joplin also died from drug overdose within weeks of Jimi's death. Always makes me wonder what the music scene would have been like if they had survived and continued to record for another 20 years or so. Mind boggling.

It's the old Reading Railroad viaduct. The useable portion starts north of Vine St. between 12th & 11th. They took out the sections south of there that lead to the former passenger station when the Vine Street Expressway was created. The train shed is now part of PA Convention Center. I took many a train in and out there going to my 8th grade girlfriend's house in the Mt. Airy section of the city. There is also a spur that curves down to street level at Carlton St. That is the first phase that has been completed.

NYC has been in a continual state of corrupt destruction and banal rebirth from the colonial period through Robert Moses, to the present high rise desertification and transit collapse. I like what they've done with the tracks, but the weight of change and nostalgia is too great for me to really enjoy much of anything but the museums up there, anymore.

I don't see it after a quick look, but it was just neat to see a Rott up against all the typical dogs you would see in that group. It's the 20" group, so he was up against the typical Border type things, and even a Dalmatian. Seeing that bad dude go up against all the svelt competitors, was cool to see. He wasn't overweight, by any means, but he was still a Rottweiler.....
I took a look too but haven't seen anything yet.

Just back from the gym, my first visit since August before the shoulder repair. Felt good getting back to my familiar machines, although I was very conservative with the weights. No pains though. The kid is back!
