Her Spanish album and the Nelson Riddle stuff showed her range.

She was a flat-out singer, all there was to it.

One of her early back-up singers had some good stuff, too: Nicolette Larson.
Really bad that Nicolette was taken from us way way too soon........

I had watched the interview with her just last night on youtube. I had a crush on her too, like most men did. Talent, beauty, and single.

I graduated high school (and started college) in 1978. Yup. Yes, I did.

And I hope she didn't pedal those rattrap pedals with those feet.

I am familiar with the song, but did not know the singer. I looked her up on YouTube. Like Linda, talent and looks. Now I am watching old episodes of the Midnight Special. That was a great era for music.

First, a big thank you to Roll Monroe for the first post.
Second, a big thank you to malcala for the Sunday Morning video.
Third, yes, I had a crush on her. Who wouldn't, especially after seeing her wearing a hot pants Cub Scout uniform in concert in 1977?

There, now that I got that out of the way, what wheels are on the bike mounted on the wall behind the counter in the background of the OP's bike shop photo?
They look like deep-rim aero wheels, but I don't recall those being around in 1978.

I’m too going to know her music, but I enjoyed this interview. She sure sounds wise, human and humble. It was really nice.

The Midnight Special. What a show! I wish we had something like that these days. Now I'm watching Mark Bolan and T Rex rolling through "Bang a Gong."

If that's a shop in Japan, maybe they had such a thing at the time, Wiki says she went to Japan in 79 so who knows.

Strangely, I was really into Pat Benatar at the time though I appreciated Linda big time. Not to compare the two - Pat is no way Linda's equal musically. My problem is that I was huge into LOTR, and Pat was my idea of what Arwen would be like. Then the movies came along and Liv Tyler pretty much squelched that notion. Now - yeah, Linda's the bomb.

Looking back, it seems to me now she was positively America's sweetheart for awhile. I'm not sure this could be a thing, today, for various reasons, both good and bad.

And it could, or should be mentioned, that the afore-mentioned song she really nailed, Willin', was written my Lowell George too.
I was never much of a Linda fan back then, but that's not to say I don't respect her accomplishments, which were huge.
I have both of her Spanish/Mexican song CD's she did. Great stuff. Great voice.

I also leaned more towards Pat Benatar; she was trained as an opera singer, and definitely had more range, but that doesn't include interpretation, phrasing, or the freedom to "move about" like Linda Ronstadt.

Rock was Benatar's genre, but not originally, and I'm sure Neil Geraldo had something to do with that. From what I read, she pretty much stayed inside the record company's lines, put on the shows, and it was a career. Much less of the crossing stage paths in that genre.

Don't get me started on Joan Jett (yes, yes, I "know" ); makes no difference. I am not into "sweethearts," obviously.

I always thought Joan was scary. Elvira's skinny sister. What about Ellen Aim? She was a rock Goddess during her brief career. On a serious note, I might have to get me one of these.
