Never went down on any of the 6 motorcycle related ones either, although there has been substantial damage done to the motorcycles.

A buddy got intentionally rammed by a buck a couple years ago. Broke a couple of ribs, messed up the bike.
It’s this time of year, the bucks are going nuts.

They are the most dangerous non-human animal to human life, almost all because of collisions with cars. Some have pointed out that we may be safer with more cougars and wolves eating them.
Some years ago a commuter to JPL who rode down that trail in the Angeles NF that goes near JPL died from colliding with a deer. A friend lives nearby, works at JPL, bikes the same route.

Yup. The "menace" is of our making. Deer are edge critters. We cleared so much forested land, creating more "edge" they moved in, multiplied and loved it. We went even further, planting soy beans, corn and tasty flowers around expansive lawns. What could go wrong?

One of my dispatcher coworkers once got a call from a lady complaining of a deer in her neighborhood. She asked, "Isn't it illegal for deer to be inside the city limits?"

Had two fawns run along with me on a local MUP recently--one on each side. One ran into the woods right away, the one on the other side took a while to find a good opening, but eventually went into the woods also. I was going very slow, as I saw them before I got to them, could have stopped if one ran onto the mup. And 3 days ago, on the same mup, my wife stopped in front on me, resting on a fence, while waiting for the rest of our group to catch up. We hear a screech-turned out we had stopped where a buck was standing on the other side of the fence--the buck and some deer ran off into the woods, but only maybe 20 yards before they stopped and watched us watching them. See them going thru our yard (and eating our flowers, etc) every afternoon.

There is a steep long hill that I ride down a few times a week. At first I used to go as fast as possible, until another friend mentioned the fact that deer come out of the woods often and just bogey across the road with no apparent worries of collision. I now drive slower and pay attention because at the top of the road there is a turn to the right so you cannot see what is ahead. Around here deer are all over town.
If I hit a deer on that hill, it would not be a pretty sight.
