mounting a waterbottle
This may be a stupid question. I am working on my Super Mirage and need to know the best way to mount water bottle brackets on a frame that is not drilled and threaded. Should try to find a couple clamp or brackets or I can drill and use threaded inserts. It currently has a crusty old clamp on bottle mount that uses Velcro to hold the bottle. I'd like a more traditional pair of bottle brackets.

I've seen clamp-on style water bottle holders at REI and more recently even at Walmart.

The Zefal Gizmo Clamp works very well for me on my old school World Voyageur.
Kind of hard to picture from the website, but it is surprisingly sturdy:

Good luck!

Hi Mr. Danw, I'm just right across town from you in Canton. Did you happen to get that super mirage off of ebay recently? I saw one go for around 30.00 locally, what a steal!

This was listed at $40.00 but I got it for thirty. I posted a couple pics of it here.
tcs, I think I may just get the double handle bar mount.

I just bought a handlebar clamp and retro cage from Velo Orange that I mounted on my 1974 Ladies frame Paramount (It came with tourist style handlebars.)

I had a Super Mirage that I bought at a yard sale and it had hose clamps holding the cage on it. It had a bit of inner tube under each one to protect the paint.

I have hose clamps holding the second cage on my Viner. I need to repaint that thing, and I'm going to add some brazeons when I do. Just ordered some from Nova.

One can substitute the hose clamps with large black(UV-resistant) nylon wire ties.

I like to use adhesive weather striping on metal clamp fittings, I cut the rubber beveled back from the edge of the fitting so none of it shows, and because it adheres to the inside of the fitting, it's easier to place and position, tightening pipe clamps and getting the rubber all lined up can be a pain

I use the rubber auto molding adhesive, in addition to a couple zip ties. Works fine, and looks cleaner than hose clamps.

Death fork? Naaaah!!
I've had good luck with both the Zefal Gizmo and the Velo-Orange bar mount.

Here's another handlebar mount version at Bicycle Warehouse. I have one of these on one of my bikes.

I think they're on sale.

If you value your paint and downtube decals, and particularly if you have a 1950s or 1960s bike, Minoura handlebar mount adapters are the way to go.
