My mid'80s Univega Competizione, powdercoated orange:

And one I sold off awhile back: a late 70s Raleigh Super Course that had faded from tomato red to a sort of orange:

That's the opposite of my bike! (not orange, but I don't feel like starting a blue bike thread)

I really should take some better photos of this bike.

matching Orange '73 Schwinns. I did them up for my parents. After they saw a couple of mine they wanted some vintage steel too (they sold their pair of early 70's Raleighs like 15 years ago at a garage sale )

....so I got the varsity on CL for 20 bux and the Super Sport for 70 also on CL

The Varsity was hardly used...it came with the manual hanging from the bars in a little vinyl folder. Its now wearing 70's Suntour derailleurs, Dia Compe centerpull brakes, and a Velo-Orange sprung saddle. Its very comfy.

The Super Sport is the reason why I'm still awake right now I worked on it with dad as like a father-son project. It was fun. We put another Velo-Orange sprung saddle, Nitto Albatross bars (which I really like), VO inverse brake levers, VO elkhide wraps, and period correct Suntour iforgetwhats Front and Rear derailleurs. This is the before pic... the after is to come friday, we're all going for a little family C&V cruise after work

1973 Schwinn Paramount-Ladies model P61

I've been meaning to post a picture of my Ladies model 1973 Paramount but hadn't had time to take it out to the park for a pretty backdrop. Finally I decided, what the heck, and just took a photo in my dining room. I bought it on ebay last year and had it overhauled and rebuilt by Paul of Recycled Cycles in St. Louis. I asked Paul to keep it as original as possible but not to compromise safety. I did ask him if he could lower the gearing without making too many changes. He kept the original parts or when necessary replaced damaged parts with NOS original specs, exept for the brake pads (we went modern) and the freewheel. The original freewheel wasn't in good shape so Paul put on a Shimano 600 freewheel with six cogs, the largest having 28 teeth instead of the original Regina five cog freewheel with a 26 teeth large cog. He was able to fit the freewheel in by redishing the wheel and changing out the washers for thinner ones. The bike came built up as a "tourist" P61 model which apparently was a special order option in 1973, even though it wasn't shown in the catalog. I changed the original mattress saddle for a Brooks B67. Also, I added a retro water bottle cage purchased from Velo Orange, a vintage St. Christopher bicycle bell purchased on ebay from a dealer in Belgium and a NOS Schwinn "touring" saddle bag (ebay) supported by a saddle bag rack purchased from Velo Orange. I'll try to get some better pictures and post them another time.

Maureen
