Saddlebags on a sprung saddle??

I am looking to put a saddlebag on my Brooks Flyer. Anyone have any experience with this? Seems like the springs would make it difficult if not impossible. Looking at Acorn and Guu-Watanabbe(sp?). Any ideas??

Doesn't the Flyer have the bag loops?

Yes, Its the strap that secures to the seatpost that worries me. The saddlebag on my B17 rides under the saddle where the springs are on the Flyer.

I've used them with a Lepper and a Brooks Flyer... no worries!

I have a small Acorn bag on my Champion Flyer. It works fine. There is no strap for the seat post. I left my camera at the office, so sorry, no pictures.

I have two Acorn bags on two sprung Brooks B67 saddles. The first bag is the medium saddle bag which works fine with the bag loops on the saddle and the other strap around the seatpost. I also have the large saddlebag. In this case, the bag loops work fine, but the springs do get in the way of the strap for the seatpost. I just let the bag hang from the bag loops and don't try to use the seatpost strap.

I have the large Carradice saddle bag (camper longflap) usually with the Brooks B-66. The brooks does have loops for the saddle, but when I attached the seat post the springs did wear holes in the top of the bag.

I found I have no problem putting the top straps through the bottom coils on the spring. This leaves enough space for the strap around the seatpost, and for the straps on top. (I do have racks, to keep the bag off the fender.

I think you are asking about the long narrow saddlebag like you use on a road bike? I do not think one of those will work very well. The other answers are talking about the transverse English-Style saddlebags that the saddle is actually designed to carry.

If you are talking about the bigger styled saddlebags, i use a Brooks Milbrook under a sprung Brooks B66. The top loops work just fine. As for the loop for the seat post, i took out the shorter one & used a toestrap to make up for the reach due to the springs. It holds up just fine.

Back in the day, we used saddle bag supports like this:

The bag loops on the back of the saddle and the strap around the seatpost only served to locate and steady the bag. The saddlebag support bore most of the weight. As for sprung saddles, people who used those usually had a wicker basket on the front.
