Bike tire popping on Thule Rack
Ok, so I have kind of a weird question. I have a Thule T2 hitch rack, the kind where the bar goes over the front wheel. I have had a few times where a while after having the bike on the rack, the front tire end up going flat or altogether popping. I run my tires at 100psi, I usually have the bar pretty tight on the wheel because otherwise there seems to be too much play so unsure if this is the issue. Has anyone had this issue before? Will deflating my front tire a bit before putting it on the rack help at all?
Thanks,
Dave

That is weird. The only thing I can figure is that the tires aren't seated well, and the distortion that the tight U-bar creates is enough to dislodge it.
When the tire "pops" does it end up off the rim?
More info might help, tire size, rim width, and whether the rim is straight sided or hook edge.

When the tire "pops" it stays on the rim. It's a Continental GP4000s 700x23 on a Mavic Open Pro rim

Is the bottom part of your front wheel right behind the car's exhaust pipe? It can really heat up the tire.
Is it a blowout, where the tube has a long gash, at least a few inches long? That's from the tire bead coming off the wheel. The tube bulges out and pops with at Bang!

Of the "popped tire is still on the rim, what happened. Is the tire damaged? or did the tube"pop" inside, even though the tire is OK. If it's only the tube that's damaged, where is the damage?

You Know!? For Kids!
The only rack related tire failure I have ever seen was due to the tire/wheel being in close proximity to the exhaust pipe, as previously posted.

If the tire blows off the rim - with 100 psi, you'll hear more than a pop... it'll sound like a loud firecracker.
Take the tire off and inspect it.
Take the tube out and inspect it.
Are you sure this is only happening in your car rack?

While exhaust burn on racked bikes is fairly common, It leaves clear evidence in the form of a burned, charred, or melted tire. The OP couldn't have missed twice (I hope). So unless the OP is incredibly unobservant, we need to seek out some other process.

ok, so just changed out the tube since this last one had just happened. I don't think it was the exhaust since it happened when the car was turned off. It was definitely a "bang" when it popped. I checked the tube and it looked more like a pin hole than a blowout or pinch flat. I checked the tire and only thing I could find is a similar size hole/tear in the sidewall but does not look to go all the way through the tire.
So the mystery continues...
