If it were a thrasher I might agree with you but I think it's a shame to bastardize a clean bike for a frankenbike project. People turning sweet old road bikes into fixies was the first thing that made me sick to my stomach and I still see the aborted results for sale on CL. I agree Sturmey Archer 3 speeds can be sticky, icky, and clicky and not a whole lot of fun to ride (okay I can hear the groans) compared to modern Nexus hubs (there any better?). Hey I'm totally in favor of "It's mine and I'll do what I want" but seems this bike is far from dead compared to the carnage these eyes have seen. I have one in my project pile that someone in their infinite wisdom decided to spray paint fire engine red over good black original paint which broke my heart a little. Then I poached it from the culprit for $20. I'm thinking 26 x 1 3/8 free wheel and keep the brakes. Hey your bike do what you think is best, hope you don't have to crush the frame to get the coaster to work.
I do like the frame style though; it is very cruiserish.

What does the youth of today have against chain guards? Maybe no one wears long pants anymore and haven't had their pant leg stuck between their chain and sprocket and maybe crashed hard? Even if you don't crash you have that nice grease tattoo forever on your pants. Maybe it's skinny jeans that make the need for chain guards obsolete even though I don't personally own such a thing. I guess you know you're getting old when you start saying things your parents said when you were a kid.

Its all about the cruise
Im the opposite I love bling lol. Here is my newest ride. 2017 huffy classic deluxe. I bought it direct, put it together, replaced the bearings with real nice ones, greased them real good, she rides nice and smooth. 2.35 tires really make the difference on this one along with the aluminium rims.
My understanding is there are big garage sales this weekend around here. Now im going to look for a restore to add to the stable.

I don't wear skinny jeans and I do the exact opposite with my bikes. A bike without the original chainguard is a bike missing an essential part.
I'll change wheels, sprockets, cogs, pedals, everything, but it HAS to have that rattley bastard attached to the side. (after being made non-rattley of course)

I think I still do it because it's what we did to our Sting-Rays when we were kids. Removed everything that didn't make them go or stop, add number plates and race.

All the Stingrays on our block ended with Brooks saddles and pixie handlebars. And then they got beat to hell on the fire roads...

I'm working on a theme bike and want to duplicate it to mount something else.

Your correct lol. Its a plastic logo emblem "Bling" as they call it. I actually want to take it off. Im trying to figure out how to take the rivets holding it apart. The only real reason I want to remove it is so it fits on the bike rack better.

Thanks for info. Was looking for a way to attach a flat piece of metal between the tubes without brazing, etc.

Don't think my pictures ever posted to this thread... Here are our current cruisers:
First two are 26" Jamis Earth Cruisers 1, aluminum frames. Momma and Daddy's bikes. Have since added a Kroozie to each.
Then our daughter rides this 24" Huffy Cranbrook. Picked it up for $20, a bit of cleaning and new inner tube and she is good to go!
Lastly, we are picking these up tonight. Two Sun Cruiser 26" Revolutions. Need some cleaning, and maybe a bit of minor work, but these will be our loaner bikes for when friends and family come to visit.

that's kinda how my main stretch is. got it in the mid-late 90's. set it aside off and on. got into stretching bikes but did a few others before I wanted to risk it. once it was done it became my main rider again. I made a special seat for it that broke though (also had some health issues. this whole getting old thing kinda sucks), so it's sitting again. can't let it go though. sooner or later.....

Just picked up this nice one for my mom! Schwinn Classic SS- Pretty nice bike shop Schwinn. I wouldn't necessarily pay retail for one, but I found this for cheap, and it is in absolutely new shape! She will love it!
