Dangers from Jackalopes?
I will be cycling in the West this summer and hear that jackalopes can be quite dangerous.
Has anyone had any bad experiences with them?
Is bear spray effective against them or is there jackalope spray?

I tour with a coyote to ward off jackalopes, especially when I cowboy camp. It's worked so far as the only jackalopes I have seen have been stuffed and hanging on the walls of bars and restaurants.

tie a red onion cut in half with a a pink string on your rear fender. only thing that helps.

Arizona native here. Jackalopes are definitely a hazard, especially in the spring and early summer during their rutting season.
They are a real hazard to bikes (and motorcycles) as they like to charge anything and their antlers get stuck in the spokes, flipping you over. At that point, you better hope it's a lone male, and not a whole pack.....
The real danger in the desert though, is the snipes. There's a reason there's always such a large bounty on their hides!!

Snipe hunting guns will work against jackalopes, but need different ammo.

only use this if you are willing to take the risk of jackalopes humping your earholes. it is a well known fact that purple strings are the way female jackalopes let the males know they are ready to mate.

What kind of self-respecting outdoorsman worries about jackelopes or snipes? The real danger is from chupacabres.

Absolutely the truth. Studies have shown that paper bags and flashlights are of no use against chupacabres. I think it’s even stated on Wikipedia. So there ya go.

My strategy for Jackalope is the exact opposite than for bear or cougar.
Keep very quiet. Stand still and wait till it gets close. Then try to pluck a tail feather - If you do it's considered good luck and a proud mommento for the brim of your hat!
They are all but extinct in our neck of the woods. We Canadians are a lucky people but have given up brimmed hats for more environmentally friendly toques.

Also riding with no hands and singing I’m a “Little Tea Pot” will keep off the Jackalopes but will attract other possibly unwanted attention. So here in lies the dilemma.
