Great link Berny. There's a beautiful Colnago Arabesque 'drool'. 
One of the bike mags in the 80's (probably Winning) used to advertise a black one with chrome lugs. It still appears in my dreams.
There's also a nice pearl white Masi with Super Record and Modolo Master Pro brakes on the site. The bike is at least a size too big for the nong who owned it.
I hope it's in a good home now.
The Rossin link on there reminds me of a funny story. Aussie/kiwi former pro Wayne Hildred had a Rossin in the mid eighties. 'Rossin red' with Campag and Modolo Kronos brakes. It got stolen. It was recovered by the cops after a few days. Some kid stole it and painted it with a spray can of white stove enamel. Even worse, he left the components on it..

Mu Columbus EL Nivachrome frame, complete Dura Ace 8 Group, except Record headset. This frame is stiffer then any other steel I've rode.

I've never owned a road bike that wasn't lugged 531. My first proper bike was a Coventry Eagle Kermesse - 531, skinny tyres/narrow section (rigida) rims, proper brake hoods. Weighed about 22 pounds, and I loved it. It got stolen when I was 16. I replaced it with an Ernie Clements, which was 531 again, but had ALL the wrong stuff on it (suicide levers, even). That had to be stored when I went travelling, and due to confusion, got thrown on a skip! Ouch!
I've just started to get back into cycling after a gap of at least 10 years, so I bought myself a bike - lugged 531 of course. It's a Gazelle - 70's I think, but I need to get it dated. Nice little cutouts in the lugs, painted in contrasting colours. Shimano 105 rear mech, Exage 3000 (I think) front, and the nicest downtube friction shifters I've ever used. It's wonderful, and it only cost me £30 ($50) from ebay! If I needed a justification for lugged steel, I would think a 21 pound road bike with that sort of kit for $50 would be enough for most people.......
I've also never had a roadbike with anything other than downtube friction shift. I've got a mountain bike with bar shift STI, and I hate it. It's constantly in need of adjustment. Who needs that?

My Raleigh Competition and my Nishiki Fixie are both lugged steel. My two Univegas are also steel but not lugged. They are fillet brazed.

I know I'm kinda cheating because I removed the gearing and this sweet 1985 Trek 460 is now a singlespeed (SS), but I bought it because I love skinny tubed, lugged frames. And it is still a road bike. I use this bike for commuting on no-precip days. It started out almost 24 lbs, but weighs comfortably below 19. I highly recommend SSing an old road bike. The ride is supreme. Total cost to date: $160, 100 of which was the bike itself.

That's me. Been wanting to get back on a steelie and I fell in love with the thunderbird cutouts and graphics. The plan for now is to go fixie, but we'll see.
