Does Shimano SIL-TEC come off with degreasing
Does anybody know if the Shimano SIL-TEC chain surface treatment come off if you degrease your chain? I was thinking of using Muc-Off c3 dry lube on a new chain and the directions say to degrease before applying. I want as much protection on the chain as I can get.

My impression is that it does not come off. I've been operating with that assumption, and am applying wax rather than Muc-off, but it is the same idea.

Sounds to me as though it's permanent and only comes off from physical wear so degreaser should have no effect but I'm just guessing. Try contacting Shimano directly to get an accurate answer.

From Shimano's literature it is a factory applied teflon like coating, mostly on the inside if the outer chain plate. It would be resistant to
degreasers but wear off mechanically over time.

Thanks All. Good idea to contact Shimano. I found a number and got a quick answer. Just as you all thought; the SIL-TEC should not come off with de-greasing.
