I'm not too concerned about the year of the bike- more concerned about the features that went along with that year model.
There's nothing "1969" I can think of- bike wise- that I'd want to hunt down. I've never had the "birth year model" thing- I guess because most of the stuff I dig is either older or newer.

Not sure, the Stronglight is a recent update, I didn't care but you can't be picky when these come along you take what you can get. It could have came with one and knowing Schwinn you probably could have ordered whatever you wanted.

I've never seen a bike built in 1949, but I still have my '64 Legnano Roma that I got new as a junior racer. Coming home from Eroica, I found a '61 Legnano Gran Premio, so I'm getting closer to '49. Maybe someday, though I'm not sure how fun it would be to ride a 70 year old bike.

Still looking for something from ‘59, but not obsessively. A Legnano would be cool, but so would a Raleigh 5-speed. The Raleigh Sports is the closest I’ve come.

Every time I've had a late '80s bike, I've never liked it enough to keep. Had a chance to pick up a Concorde PDM Worldcup bearing the year in question (and an Eddy Merckx near the same timeline), and passed on making the effort. The cost, odd color schemes (either super conservative or over the top wild), and understated lugwork just doesn't do it for me.
This Pinarello Cadore was the closest I got to a birth bike. It looked stunning, worked perfectly, and felt about as special as a mid-range Japanese bike to ride. It was cold and soulless, and I couldn't justify keeping it:

I would rather have a bike that evokes memories, instead of a bike made when I was an infant. When I was in middle school in the mid seventies, a kid on my bus was raving about getting a new Fuji and how they were so much better than the Schwinn Varsity and Huffy bikes that everyone else had. I ended up buying a used Kabuki, because I didn't have enough to get a Fuji. I don't know what model he got, but a Fuji from that era would mean more to me than something from the early sixties. Also, I wouldn't be concerned about upgrades, because things were changing rapidly back then, so it was normal to swap parts whenever something new came out, or when you saved enough money to upgrade to a lighter version.
