Trek Front Derailleur Mount Issue

So what am I dong wrong here? This is a vintage Trek aluminum frame with a mount for a bolt on front derailleur. This mount was not on the bike when I got it, but was included with parts. However, what is the deal here? No matter which way I rotate it, it doesn't seem to face the right direction....

The convex groove of the adapter is intended to mate with the cylindrical portion of the derailleur and should allow some yaw adjustment. It is possible that the derailleur's cage is shaped for a different size (number of teeth) chainring? Here is a link to the best photos I could find: https://branfordbike.com/front-derailleurs Perhaps some judicious file work is called for.

Agreed, the frame mount is on backwards. This vintage is bolted to the ST via the hex headed screws in the backround. Andy

Wrong mounting plate for that frame?

Looks like you'd need a hanger that's a similar shape to this...

Found a comment on 'r e d d i t' from 2 months ago where someone said you might still be able to order this hanger from Trek, I can't post a link to it on here, it gets blocked.

google: 'Front Derailleur Hanger for vintage Trek 5500 OCLV'

I figured as much. The hanger wasn't on the frame when I bought it. I imagine i'll have to mail order one as suggested. thank you.
