Is this to show that you are sophisticated and donīt need water while out on a long ride? Where do they put the wine glass?

Seems like a fancy way to carry screw cap wine.

You don't need a fancy leather strap.

Lol I want to hate it but can't
I can't recall what site it is - hipster review site, but I'll see it in my feed at times. Sometimes there's reviews for "cycling related" gear and this seems like something that would be showcased. Alongside the $300 flannel lite commuting jacket.

Yeah - looks like what happens when "hipsters" get old and have money. What's wrong with a good ol' fashioned dumpster build with some zip ties?

The original use for the wine carrier is to carry wine home from the market or vinyard where you bought it.
I know a guy on eastern long island who has an egg carrier in his front basket for the same reason. He gets eggs and milk from a farm down the road.
Believe it or not, there are still places in the world where people go to the market daily. As difficult as it is to believe, some have even adapted bikes to assist.
Not everyone in the world gets a Big Gulp at the 7-11 or a supersize cola at the McD drive thru.

More importantly, how much attention do you have to devote to preventing the carrier from sliding backward and then swinging a little, breaking the neck of the bottle against the seat tube?

That has to be the most corny thing I've ever seen. The sophisticated hipster riding home from the vineyard image goes out the window with a tig welded frame and unicrown fork.

I have one of those things. It was gifted to me at Xmas 2016. The one in the OP is hung incorrectly. The straps over the TT should be be tucked back through those metal retainers. I tested mine out once just for the sake of the person that gave it to me. When hung correctly it doens't move around much at all. The cutouts in the straps that go around the TT I think are to accommodate braze-on cable stays.

There's a similar design that fits a six-pack, which seems a little more impressive to me.

It’s not that bad of an idea. Here in Reims I have an old Dahon that I use for a shopping bike, and I mounted a oversized Salsa “anything” cage specifically to carry a bottle of wine.

I can't tell you the number of times I've been 30-40 miles into a ride on a hot summer day, sweating profusely and dehydrated, and thought "Why did I only bring this stupid water!? What I really need right now is alcohol! That'll rejuvenate me and keep me safe and healthy in this heat!"
I mean, haven't we all been there?

I'm pretty sure these are aimed at the urban casual transportation rider not the 40 mile hammerfest rider. And C'mon, support my local businesses!

Fifty bucks!?!?!?!? That's a bit overpriced for this product IMO. Now I'm disappointed in the friend that gave me the one I have. I could buy 6-8 bottles of the cheap wine I drink for that amount.
