Tracking you during ride?
Ok I have always just took off and road my bike. I never really tell my wife where I am riding or what route but thought maybe I should now. I retired and my wife battles breast cancer so might be good idea she can see where I am at any given time. Can someone give me the best options? It appears that Strava have the Beacon and I have looked into that but I use my Garmin 910xt on the bike. I do carry my cell phone which would still be required but wondering if that would take the battery down faster. I am going to do some research but I am sure someone here has covered the territory and can give me some options or maybe the best option.

I have Glympse https://glympse.com/get-glympse-app/ on my phone. My wife follows me with that. No dropouts. Yesterday for 1/1/2 hours, my phone lost 5 percent charge. Shows real time location on a map plus speed.

Awesomely simple.. Get the RoadID app. Your wife and others don't need to install the app. They just get a text with a link, which when opened (and reopened etc).. shows breadcrumbs on a map of where your are and have been. The only downside is you tend to get some goofy emails congratulating you on your super-fast ride after you complete your ride.

If you and she have iPhones, the Find Friends app is free and built into the device.

I like reading the goofy post-ride e-mails; they are fun to read.
This is a good system; only downside is cellphone battery consumption.

Garmin LiveTrack works well. You already have a watch and probably the app. Your wife don't need to install anything. She'll get an email with a link to a map with your dot on it.

I agree - my whole family uses this one and we started precisely because my wife gets antsy when I take off on an 8 hour "adventure". Best part, you don't have to do anything, and it doesn't require your phone to connect to your garmin or any clicking on links.

Cyclemeter has a function that if you stop for more than a preset time it will send an email to whoever you designate.

I use the app found at followmee.com . It uploads my position (from my android Samsung S5 smartphone) to a url that my wife can access from her Windows laptop. It has worked very well for us.

My experience with life360 is it sucks phone battery.
Road ID sounds interesting if you didn't have a Garmin.

First time I rode with Element Bolt and Wahoo App tracking, my wife opened the door for me on my return.

I use Garmin Live Track or simply just Find Friend on IOS if I’m worried about battery usage.
Only downside is riding in rural areas with coverage dead zones, which make you disappear from tracking.

Lot's of options...I believe all modern GPS bike computers will let someone track you if you like. I have an Element Bolt and my wife can watch me online with it. Same with Garmin computers. If you have an iPhone just use the Find my iPhone app on the phone.

Well I got an answer. I ask my wife and she said well you just carry iPhone anyhow so if you need something call. She said we need to get rid of the huge amount a spam email we have been getting so I guess that is more important. I will ride my bike and ignore the email. Thanks for all the suggestions.
