Santana Finish question
Yesterday a Santana tandem came into the shop for a bit of work. The finish was interesting. The frame is bare aluminum with "swirl" marks all of it. Maybe made with a disc sander? Them it was clear coated.
Anyone familiar with this finish and how it was done?

sounds like a swirled finish which is done with a polishing pad on a rotary tool.

By "rotary tool" what would that be? I am a woodworker so my sand tools are a bit different.

I said rotary tool because it doesn't matter how you spin the pad. On youtube, the tool of choice seems to be a drill press, but that probably isn't going to work that well on a frame. I would probably use a dremel. I'm sure Santana used a 90 degree die grinder, which is what that "surface prep" tool is. If you were careful, a hand drill would work. Definitely use a pad that doesn't have much tooth. You could cut right through if you used an aggressive pad.
