Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Where can I find cheap wedges/shims for the cleats?

I can't seem to find cheap wedges/shims for the cleats anywhere. The lbs was selling them in boxes for $25 and online that's all I've found so far. Anyone know where I can get some for less than $10? I don't need a ton of them...

Thanks!

Buy the box. They will chip and bend a bit, so extras are good to have.

Seriously, I'd just use window/door shims from The Borg. This isn't rocket surgery

Get the ones in the small pack that are shrink-wrapped together, about 7" long. Those monster 10" ones that are strapped together are probably going to be too thick on the thin end.

Call around. My LBS sells them individually for around $2 each. I also have a couple of extra speedplay pattern shims if you're interested in taking them off my hands for a buck or so each plus shipping.

1"X1" squares cut from half gallon milk jug. Cost about 3$ and some cereal.

If you have 2 or 4 bolt cleats, you can sometimes use thin steel washers (real cheap at any hardware store). Washers are harder to use with 3 bolt cleats.

Another cheap method is to put a strip of cardboard under one side of your insole.

It appears that the only thing around (for 3-hole cleats) is a $25 product from bikefit.com. That's all the LBS' carry as well as the online stores. For thin plastic pieces, that just seems over-priced.
