Been a while. Ran across an add for this. Bit heart broke about its condition and that its not my size.

50 cm Takara bought from a nice young couple for 20 dollars. Not sure what model or year because the only numbers I can find are 43821 on the lower end of the seat tube. Needs a new front tire, cables, bar tape, pedals, missing front derailleur, loose headset, etc, but for the price was a pretty cool find for my son. Check out that shorty stem! Super bummed the head badge is missing, that's the best part, but will be a fun neighborhood beater/cruiser for him.
I bought a 50 cm 1981 Trek 410 for 20 bucks last week as well. Missing some brake parts and cables, and the front rim was ridden on for who knows how long with no tire! Trashed the rim but still runs true, haha.
The Takara makes 4, 50 cm project bikes for my son, but his priority is the 76 Gitane, and modifying a super short stem to fit. Special thanks to Jason for that!

Hidden Treasure?
I was tearing down a hedge/fence when I came across something that wasn't hedge or fence. It was this, 50's I'm guessing, ladies step through cruiser in an advanced state of decay. All the soft parts of the seat were gone eaten by rats I suppose and tons of rust with just a hint of the original blue paint and a part of a Los Angeles City Bicycle License tag. No head badge or screw holes chrome capped front fork, 2 thin top tubes, and seat stays that look like they fit into an eyelet which loops around the seat tube. Long chrome chain guard has rear fender but the front is long gone. Something is compelling me to fix this thing up. Looks like old 26 x 1 3/8 rims with a sweet German Komet rear hub with the chrome in serviceable shape as well as most of the other chrome. Ideas, comments, or info welcome. I've also considered just clear coating the rust and sanitizing all the bearings and running gear sort of a patina bike but the jury is still out on that.

Running errands, and a little voice in my head says, "drive up Laurel," so I did. Then I passed a yard sale where they were packing up, and even though there were no bikes in evidence, the voice said, "go back and ask," so I did. And lo, the guy with the Fu Manchu mustache said, "I've got a couple of old bikes," I so got out and picked up this c.1999 Specialized Hardrock for $10; the blue and white Quasar BSO was another $2, and I figure the basic Shimano derailleurs on it are worth that to me.

Once I got it home, I fished out a spare front skewer and fitted the front wheel, then removed the steel rear wheel and put the original Shimano/Weinmann rear on. Needed to be trued up and will need a little more of that before I am done. I need a front grip shifter, a new set of brake pads for the rear brake and a different saddle and it will be good to go.

Traded a worn out 7400 group and wheels for this. I had everything for it except hoods. They are coming in today. Updated pics later, it really cleaned up nice.

Continuing my 90's era mt. bike theme. Both in good condition. Woman contacted me and asked if I wanted a couple of bikes. I said sure and does she know what brand? She said both Mt Shastas. Looked it up and yay, more GT's for me. She said take them before she gives them to Goodwill. Picked them up an hour ago. A Kilimanjaro with the GT splatter paint job and a Backwoods in black. Probably both '93-'94. Great, my size again! Now I'm really up above my head in "bikes-to-keep-and-ride" Why are these bikes finding me? lol I'll probably sell the Backwoods.We'll see.

I work on my bike(s) out in the alley behind my house in the garage. I'm friendly with all the neighbors and fix flats for the price of the tube, pay it forward I guess. One day a couple of weeks ago one of those neighbors pulled up in her SUV and said, "Hey I don't know if you're interested but there is a bike out for the garbage man across from my house". It was about half a block away so I shut up the garage and strolled down and to my surprise an old Centurion Touring bike. Brought it back to the house and started cleaning, replaced the tires, and wrapped the bars with new cork tape. 1984 Centurion Pro Tour 15 that turned out to be in spectacular condition and a whopping 63cm
That's an unbelievable find! Pretty much my dream bike. I'd be hounding you for it if it were a little bit smaller!

Couldn't pass up this old GT for $20. Just needs a good cleaning and maybe some cables and wires, otherwise in fantastic shape. Talk about a Craigslist anomaly, I think the seller put it in the "bike parts" section because she thought it needed new tires. It's in better condition than a lot of the "LIKE NEW" frauds. I was thinking flip but my N+1 affliction is possibly incurable at this point. [IMG]

Just picked this up today for $20. Novara Ponderosa Scott Nicol design. A bit rough but nothing I can't handle. From what I've briefly searched online, it's around an '87? Should be a good project down the line:

Found this Varsity at a garage sale for $20. Surprisingly nice condition. It has the bike sticker from Bill's Schwinn, which was the coolest & most popular bike shop in Orange CA back in the 70's.

It's not so much where to start, but where to stop. This one is all there, it's going to be made as pretty as possible, rode for a month or two on beach trips, and sold to a nostalgia freak. I have a Continental frame & for in the garage that's going to be built up some day.

2 for 1 deal today, nice price on the Serotta and the Schwinn 2 speed kickback thrown in for free. I've been wanting a Serotta for awhile, not really the model I wanted but it will do. Feels like it will make a great all day rider.
