Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Motobecane Sprint vs Tommaso Velocita

Should I get the Tommaso Velocita with SRAM Force off Giantnerd.com for $999 or the Motobecane Sprint with Ultegra 6700 off bikesdirect.com for the same price? Is giantnerd.com a respectable website?

Motobecane Sprint details: https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...e/sprint_x.htm

Tommaso Velocita details: https://www.giantnerd.com/tommaso-vel...road-bike.html

Thanks for all replies.

You might also take a look at

https://cgi.ebay.com/2010-BOTTECCHIA-...item230b5f587a

It has a Columbus Airplane frame...pretty high end and should be quite light.

I like the Motobecane Sprint. It is the best value out there as long as you know your size. A friend got their Ti bike with the 6700 drive train this past spring, it has been great. I have their carbon Immortal Force (5 years old now) with no complaints.

If you get the Sprint please let me know how it is. I have recommended it to many so far.

WTF? So are you saying you have zero experience with the Sprint but recommend it to many? I tend to read reviews and recommendations from those who have actually used a product.. but maybe that's just me.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I am leaning towards the Sprint, but am still considering the other. Is Giantnerd.com a reliable website? What factory are their frames sourced from? I just read some bad reviews about the site.

the motobecane sprint looks good on paper but a guy i rode with before told me he used to have a motobecane sprint and it just didn't feel responsive. he returned it and got a caad9 and was much happier, even with lesser parts on the cannondale. also, i have purchased from bikesdirect in the past (and looked into their offerings when i was looking for my first road bike) so i am not just spewing baseless hatred.

Bottecchia USA is another BikesDirect brand like Motobecane, but is sold through Ebay. I bought an aluminum-framed one nearly 4 years ago and I've been really happy with it.

Well the Motobecane comes with Shimano and the Tommaso comes with SRAM.

Go with whichever system you prefer. If you don't care, go with SRAM... it's lighter.

Whatever you get, make sure it fits. If you haven't spend some time researching fit and maybe mess around with a few fit calculators. However, the best way to what bike will fit is to try it out. If you can try some bikes out and compare geometries. You'll need to understand how the differences in geometry affect the fit.
