Hi all, need a little wheel size advice

Hi everyone, first post on the site but I've enjoyed reading some of the threads on here, and thought this would be the best place to post.

Need a little advice, I found an old Falcon Harrier 10-speed bike in a cupboard at my mothers, (I think it's from the late 80's) and after years of riding mountain bikes and the occasional bmx, I thought that this might be a nice project to keep myself occupied, ending in a nice new way to get back and fore work.

It has a few spots of rust, and the wheels could do with replacing, but altogether it's a really nice bike. I've just begun stripping it and I'm thinking of powdercoating (My girlfriend knows a guy who can do it cheap )

The only problem is, it's a little bit small. It has 24 inch wheels, and I was wondering if it would take 26 inch wheels with the tyre and all? Not sure of the frame size though... But I'm only 5"6 and it's slightly too small for me.

Might sound like a stupid question, but last thing I want is to find out they don't fit AFTER I've bought them...

Cheers for the help!

I may be able to help. First, some questions:

Can you post photos of the bike here? This would make it much easier for people to assist who view your thread.
What is the exact size of the tyres on the bike now?
Are the wheel dimensions marked somewhere on the rims? If so, please post the exact wheel size.

This does not make sense to me? The wheels should be either 27" or 700c, both considerably larger than 24". Perhaps I am missing something but how did you determine the wheels to be 24"?

I doubt the bike has 24inch wheels also some of the older English stuff had english sized 26' touring wheels. Most of them however did have 27in wheels as stated above.

Perhaps it is a juvenile-sized bicycle. Nishiki made an Olympic w/ 24" wheels, and I believe Peugeot made something similar.

Sorry guys, my impatience bites me in the butt once again... Thought I'd ask around

I'm getting the measurements from the tyres, they say 24x1 3/8. Don't know if that helps at all.

As stated above, pics are on the other forum post, there seems to be a fair bit of clearance with the 24 inchers on so I'm hoping larger rims will fit. Of course, I'd need shorter brake calipers, if the rims fit at all, that is!

cheers guys
