Finally pieced together an ‘83 Trek 720
This took me a while to piece this 1983 720 together.. it started as frame set I picked up from member Steve Whitlatch.
I had an ‘82 non-canti brake 728 but wanted a cantilever brake 720. Just liked how the 1983 720’s look, maybe it was only the pewter color.
This paint is all scratched up, the next step is to save up for a new paint job. Till then I’ll just toss some inexpensive bar tape and ride it.

You're going for a stock-ish build?
It looks very nice. Your eye is drawn to the Huret bits- and then you catch the GC levers- and then I was all like "I see what you're up to..."

Yeah I used some of the Trek 728 parts including the 700c wheel set. It’s pretty much what the 1983 720’s came with.

That looks really sweet, and I bet it rides nice too. What brand/size tires are those?

(I was going to say "upgrade" but that bike is all top of the line stuff... stuff got better later, but everything on there is prime, grade A for 1982/3.)

[QUOTE=The Golden Boy;21475362]Are you going to keep it like that- or make some changes here and there?
I’m happy with the way I have it. It rides great and shifts smooth for a 1982/83 bike. When the time comes for a re-spray, I’ll just replace the consumables like cables/pads and rubber.

Yes,
Take the freewheel off, and it'll come right off.

What's going to happen with the 728? (or 720 as it is now)

Pedal to the medal
Your build looks top notch: good cable length, top class parts; great job! I love the Pewter Treks too. My daily rider is a 613 a few years younger than yours. That's some tire clearance. Enjoy it.

You're lucky you've got spare brake shoes- I have no idea how I'd go about turning down the posts on another set of those.
