Headed to Whitefish, MT (aka Glacier Nat Park, aka near Cino) where should I go

So my family is on a long road trip currently to escape isolation, staying with relatives and otherwise avoiding public. We have visited grand parents in Kansas and Oklahoma, and tomorrow will make our way to Whitefish, MT so that we can go see Glacier NP. Monday the park will partially open to visitors up to Lake McDonald Lodge by car, and.more importantly open Going to the Sun road to bikes only 🤩.

That said, what else should I do or ride in the area?
I thought I could ride some of the Cino route as well.
I have a couple boys that would be game for 10 mile-ish rides as well. We brought gravel friendly bikes with us.

Ask the people at Glacier Cyclery about rputes, they're very helpful.

Last summer I rode from Whitefish down the east side of Flathead Lake to Paulsen. Beautiful ride, but it was late June and temperatures were in the 50s with scattered hail. Bring warm clothes!

I also spent an afternoon riding the county roads between Whitefish and Columbia Falls. It was pleasant. Can't speak on Glacier itself though.

Laurie and I rode to the pass and back down the same side one day, then drove over the next day, and rode to the top and back down on the other side. That way you get to experience GTTS twice in two days, without a two-car shuttle. Riding all the way over and then back over again in one day is too much mileage for us (we're old). Sounds like you don't get to do that though -- no cars over the GTTS? Bummer. At least ride to the pass, a stunning ride.

Make sure to leave time for a hike or two at Logan Pass. We saw tons of mountain goats up close, and a grizzly bear, luckily from far away. The mountain goats let us get so close that when I went to take a picture, I had to back up to get the whole goat in the frame. As I snapped the pic, he reached up with a hind hoof and scratched his neck, which I assume was a gesture of extreme indifference to us being there. Our mountain goats around here (Washington Cascades and Olympics) are "elusive" and shy. Pictures are more like "see those little white dots? Those were mountain goats (I think)!"

Try to see a glacier while you're there -- they'll all be gone soon...

I've always heard the summer means August in MT. So +1 on warm clothes and enjoy Glacier NP. It is truly the Jewel of the USA.

If Going to the Sun road is open to bikes only, I would ABSOLUTELY make the time to ride as much of it as you can. Having it closed to cars is just icing on the cake.

Tomorrow

We ride going to the sun road tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm hearing it is only open to Logan's Creek, not to be confused with Logan's Pass.

I'll post more later.
