Froome --- Israel Start-Up Nation?? Hmmm.

I wouldn't have thunk it. But it is not a done deal AFAIK.

Edit....
Sorry I forgot there was already a specific Froome thread on this. I was thinking my other conversations on this were a sidebar to another topic.

I'm really surprised he went. But then again, look at all the quarter backs that after a long successful career with the same team and many fans wondering why they don't retire in their prime. Then they go with another team just to show the scoffers that they were good for a few more years.

Yeah, but.....

...that's sort of like me trying to hold on for another year of riding with the faster guys in my group. It's not easy to face our own physical declines. More so for people who are hyper-competitive and have their physical prowess as the center of their being.

This seems a plausible part of probably many reasons for Froome switching:

.......And then there’s Brailsford, who has already proven to be the most effective if equally controversial team managers in Tour history, winning seven of the past eight editions with four different riders. Brailsford’s decision to cut loose Froome reconfirms his calculating, sometimes icy but highly effective numbers- and results-driven focus. In 2013, he dropped Bradley Wiggins in favor of Froome, and now he’s repeating the playbook, moving past Froome in favor of Egan Bernal, and the alluring future the 23-year-old diamond-in-the-rough promises. With Bernal and a host of other young talents that Brailsford has been quietly nurturing over the past few seasons, Ineos and their British manager could be hogging the top step of the Tour going well into the next decade even without Froome.

But did he go himself really?

It seems Ineos did not renew the contract (maybe because he wanted one where he was number 1 and they didn't want that).

I don't think Bernal can be money wise as lucrative for the team as Froome. For that, you need to have proper, all around 'advertising image' which short South American will never have. On the other hand, Froome is not easy to be a fan of, unlike for example Sagan. That's why Sagan is more lucrative proposition, both for himself and his team, than Froome. I understand, Sagan is the tops in this regard, right? But maybe only in some recent standing, not overall in their careers.

I'd be inclined to believe, he went himself. Those promises or talk about how they will all three of them start on equal footing and it will sort itself out after some stages... the prospect of that might well lead to not any of them making it in the end. I doubt that is an effective strategy, maybe, just maybe if you get two racers in such a position but three? As manager of another team said, in that case, someone else would likely profit from that.

Just to continue to add to the drama.............. now even though when Froome's switch to Israel Start Up Nation next season was announced, someone said that he'd ride in the 2020 TdF along with Bernal and Thomas................ there seems to be some that are questioning that.

team ineos may not want froomie on board for the tour but to beat team jv, they will need him along with some combo of bernal, thomas, sivakov, kwiatkowski, sosa, tgh,
kiryienka, rohan dennis, amador, rowe and swift.
