Downtube shifters in Zwift's world?
I saw this on the bike next to me at the line before a race yesterday. I'm not the most observant of people, so it may be commonplace and I just never saw, but I chuckled.
Downtube shifters with zipp wheels! That isnt a common pairing at all.
I never check the store or whatever it's called, so I guess downtube shifters are an option that can be unlocked?

Not Zipps but Reynolds carbon fiber and Dura-Ace downtube 10 speed. And mine are real! I only use the seat bag when I am doing a long non supported ride and I want to carry more stuff.

Thanks. This is what I assumed- its an unlockable feature. I have to go into the locker/store/whatever sometime and actually look at what is available. Ive never done it since its such a cumbersome and inconvenient process. I pretty much log on to ride/race and then it shuts down when I end, and the laptop is on the ground so I am not really near it while riding to look at changing anything.
I need to remember to log in plenty early to take a few minutes next time.

You can pair the Zwift steel bike with the classic wheels and then “dress-up” in a vintage kit for a casual Sunday pretend ride! No toe clips however.

I actually put an old 12 speed 80's steel bike on my trainer to Zwift last summer and had to switch gears with the down tube shifters. Not fun ha ha. I have since added a more modern bike to the Zwift setup and retired the older bike. Nothing wrong with the vintage though and enjoy riding my 80's Peugeot around town.

My trainer bike has downtube shifters. Sometimes I think that it would be nice to have brifters, but with the trainer difficulty setting you don't really have to shift as much. OTOH, the way they adjust resistance, I seem to always find myself pedaling slower than I want. At least I think that's how trainer difficulty works

I assume you have the difficulty set to the standard 50%? That's the thing that lets you stay in the giant gear. It does depend on the course, but I'm sure you would be shifting more on the road. Set the trainer difficulty to 100% and that would be the same as outdoors.
