Dumpster diving at my dad's
Today was a mental break/vacation day to travel with one of my brothers to Spokane WA for a store closeout sale and then south for an hour to my parents place in the Palouse region to help around their place for a few hours.
My dad got into cycling in late 70's/early 80's and soon was into the long distance cycling scene. He never did to rando rides but did do the Seattle to Portland in one day ride at least twice, Ride Around Mt Rainier In One Day (RAMROD) at least 4 times and the cross state Cannonball ride (276 miles in one day) 3-4 times.
I have been blessed to get a few of his bikes including a low-end Peugeot, Peugeot PSV10 (since sold as it was too big), a Vitus 979 disguised as aforementioned PSV10, a Klein mtb and his pride and joy - 1989 Spectrum Titanium. The Spectrum is back with him now to try and coax another brother into riding more.
Today I was throwing something in his garbage in the garage and saw sitting at the bottom of the empty container a bunch of Cyclist magazines from the mid to late 80's. Of course, being a C&V nut I quickly rescued them. Then, to my chagrine, I find out he's already thrown a bunch more of them out. This was forwarded with a forehead slap on my part. It's going to be some fun reading for a little while.

Then there is the Christmas ad with one of my two grail bikes - top of the line pearl white Olmo (the other was the Peugeot PY10FC). I would just stare at those two frame sets every time I walked into our bike shop.

It took me a minute to figure out that the model's one-piece was a triathlon outfit. The Bridgestone Grand Velo triathlon bike with panto'd stem and Japanese tubular rims was the giveaway.

Nice grab! 👍 I love that Suntour ad/poster(?), and I’m using a lot of that first gen XC they mention. 😎 I maybe need to upgrade my brake levers, they’re XC Sport, a notch lower, I guess. The Sport levers are plastic, and regular XC levers were aluminum or alloy or something metal.

Alas, all the magazines that I have from the 70's and 80's are Hot Rod, and it sure would be fun to thumb through some of those Cyclist magazines.
