Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2011 Trek Lexa SL and a flat repair kit. Bike was on sale because it's last year's model, and even nicer, it was one of the few in the store in my size. (I was anticipating needing to order one in, since there are two strikes against me. One, short female. Two, mountain bikes are much more popular around here than road bikes are.)

Uvex FP3

I bought this and then was given the Specialized as a gift. Not sure which I like better. I like the way the Uvex looks, and it feels great, but the Specialized is noticeably lighter and cooler on hot days.

A pair of these levers to start to replace 30 year old brakes and move onto 700c from 27" wheels.

Next will be a pair of calipers for same reason. Probably some of these

Yeah, did a 50km ride after I built it up. Shifting is great and still need to fine tune it a bit. My other bike is DA7900 and I think the new RED beats it in front shifting. I still want to test shifting on a climb and under harder load, but already better than the Rival it replaced.

Brakes were easy to setup, and feel good so far, but again, my test ride was flat and didn't really have to do any hard braking to test power / modulation.

My hard choice now is to pick which bike I want to ride lol

A new water heater :-( This is related to cycling because now I can't spend money on cycling. At least I happened to be home when it happened and got the water turned off before there was any structural damage.

Woe is me.

Just FYI today only Nashbar has 20% off an order of $75+, on top of some pretty good sales right now. Especially Shimano components.

I'd been looking for a replacement crank and got an Ultegra SL
MSRP: $260
-$120 sale
-$28 Promo: 97254
Total: $112

Yeah, I bought a Prevail last year to replace my cracked crashed S-Works helmet. I mostly decided on it for lighter weight, and a better retention system. It didn't fit my head as good as the S-Works however. Then they put the Prevail retention, and strap on the S-Works renamed it the S3, and lower the price. These helmets are great. I never liked wearing helmets until I got my first S-Works. Now I forget it's on my head sometimes.

Been on a bit of a spending spree the last day or so:

PI Pro bibs.
Specalized Tahoe shoes (for the tour/trail bike)
Polar bottle
Castelli Mauro Wool Jersey (from ChainLove)
TransIt rack trunk (for the tour/trail bike)
Performance Century baggy bike shorts (for the tour/trail bike) - can ya tell I'm gearing up for a ride on it?

Still need:
Cateye Dual Wireless - comparing prices, really must get my speed out in front of me while leading the group rides again
Another set of bibs or two.
Pump / CO2 for the tour/trail bike
